Toronto deals Franson; acquires Ott from Dallas
The Toronto Maple Leafs got a little more difficult to play against Saturday, finalizing a deal that sends defenceman Cody Franson, along with Toronto's 3rd round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, to the Dallas Stars in exchange for gritty forward Steve Ott, and the LA Kings 2nd round selection in the 2012 draft.
"We realized we needed more grit, and we had a surplus of defencemen. This deal made sense for all parties involved." Leafs GM TribalPhoenix stated in a press conference today.
"While Steve is a player who gest under the skin of the opposition, he's also a guy with offensive ability and can skate. He's a guy who can certainly play the game, and we're very happy to have him playing it wearing the blue and white."

Phoenix has acquired Brandon Dubinsky for
David Rundblad and Phoenix's 2nd round pick in 2012
The Canucks announce that they have dealt goaltender Roberto Luongo to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"It was a tough decision moving Roberto, but with Cory's emergence we felt now was the time to make the move. We feel Tampa is the ideal destination for Roberto. We thank him for all the years he put into this organization and being the consummate professional throughout this process. All the best to him in the rest of his career."
"In return we receive former Canuck Mattias Ohlund, who missed the previous season due to injury and is questionable going forward as well as prospect Vlad Namestnikov and the 10th overall pick in the upcoming entry draft."
"We are also very pleased to announce that we have re-signed Cory Schneider to a 3 year contract worth a total of $10.5M."
We will shop the 10th overall pick in an effort to acquire either another top 6 forward or top 4 d-man capable of playing the right side or move up in the draft.
Devils Aquire Bernier in Swap with LA
F Zach Parise's Rights
F Mattias Tedenby
Conditional NJD 1st 2012 (If Parise signs, becomes 7th 2012)
G Jonathan Bernier
D Slava Voynov
LAK 2nd 2013
I'm pretty happy with the way this deal turned out for us. Jonathan Bernier is going to get his chance to shine in New Jersey, and will usher in a new era between the pipes for the devils. From the beginning of talks with LA, I knew that I needed to have Voynov in Red and White aswell. I think he's got good game and will continue to play top 4 time in New Jersey. Both sides are taking risks here, but I think it will pay off for us in the end.
