Nelson projects as a top talent out of Minnesota for the 2008 born age group, he recently just won the World Youth Championship where the best 2008’s in North America compete against each other. Nelson took him MVP in this tournament scoring 11 goals and 9 assists in 9 games. He showcased elite hockey sense and slick offensive ability’s in the tournament and really dominated against the best of his peers. Should be an exiting follow going forward.

Coming up through the youth ranks in MN he was thought of as the better prospect than his brother Danny. I think he's flying under the radar because perhaps the exposure wasn't there. He is a very good player.

So is Wyatt Cullen, one of Matt's kids, who also played only bantams in Moorhead and obv made ntdp- dominated MN youth hockey from squirt all the way up. Pretty sure Moorhead was ranked #1 at all times at every level even against the twin cities super power programs like edina, maple grove and woodbury squirt through bantam along with logan lutner who is also on the team.

I think he's probably the best draft prospect from this NTDP age group. First of all, draft title needs editing because he's a 2027 eligible (CC Thread Starter: @GermanSpitfire). We aren't talking about him compared to the 2026's. He's going to have that extra year, and I think it could do him a lot of good.

I think he's better than Danny was at the same age. There are definitely a lot of similarities to how they play, but I think Sammy is just better overall at pretty much everything. I see a good chance at a top 6 center with Sammy. He can do everything, and he's a better playmaker with better hockey sense than his brother. Still has the power forward, skating, defensive game, and size of his brother. And I think he also shoots it better, although Danny is an underrated shooter.

Could end up a top 10 pick in 2027. Wouldn't surprise me. Think he's a safe bet for a first rounder in 2027 either way.
