Not much talk on this kid, might sound crazy but I think he could sneak into the 20s, especially if a team like Colorado who have been drafting Jr. A guys consistently gets eyes on him. Headed to Denver next year as well.

Big frame with excellent straight line skating. More of a playmaker than a sniper, though I do like his release. Some comparables to Dylan Holloway here, he throws the body around and yet has pretty soft hands for his size/play style. NHL CS has him as the top ranked kid in Canadian Jr. A this year, IMO rightfully so.

Not much content out there on him but there are a few game clips to be seen here:

Deserves a bump with the season he’s putting together. Leading his team in scoring by 12 - and is 32 points up on 3rd, so he’s basically the team’s offence.

Very responsible, big, solid skater, finishes, sets plays up, lays the body. I’m looking forward to watching more of him. Again, won’t be surprised if he is ranked in the 1st by some teams, particularly those who scout Jr A heavily like Colorado.

Why is there basically no euro imports in the BCHL or AJHL?
Import rules maybe? BCHL left the CJHL too so both leagues could have very different import rules.

A lot of imports generally don't play in Canadian Junior A leagues, they usually go to major junior or play in the USHL for Junior A.

True but you’d think if you were a player wanting to play a more prominent role, the Junior A would be a better option. Especially for guys who want to play NCAA, which is increasing especially in Slovakia. Could be import rules for sure

He's commonly listed as a C. Definitely LW in this game. Can anyone confirm that he's a full time LW?

Only Canadians are allowed in the BCHL, with Americans considered "imports". Europeans who are interested in going the NCAA route go into the USHL.

Europeans are allowed in the BC but they have to pay; in fact all imports in BC have to pay to play.

The end result for those import payees:

- looks great if you end up at Yale or BU
- looks awful if you end up at Lake Superior State

Ah I see. Anyways, it's a pretty rare thing to see Euros in the BCHL.

I think this kid deserves more recognition. Has everything you want in a prospect really, just doesn't have much flash.
Agree. He seems focussed on being a pro already - more than trying to develop into some junior hotshot. He is super talented and has more 'exciting' skill than people give him credit for - he just sticks to what gets results which makes him appear less flashy. He drives the play and makes things happen. He was a record point scorer before he came to the AJHL and he's going to a great program in Denver. Could see him going late in the 1st as teams will prize what he has: skills that will translate to the NHL, NHL size for the wing w/ skating to go with it, a genuine interest in being a 200ft hockey player, and a dedication to the details, such as nutrition and fitness - to go with his scoring prowess.

Rieger Lorenz was drafted by the Winnipeg Ice in the 2019 WHL Draft. He was also drafted by the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the 2020 USHL Draft. However, the young forward opted to play for the Okotoks Oilers in the AJHL. By doing so, he has maintained his eligibility to play NCAA Hockey. Lorenz is committed to joining the NCAA Champion University of Denver Pioneers next season.

This season Lorenz dominated the AJHL. He scored 38 goals and 47 assists for 85 points in 60 regular-season games. Lorenz also added two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 14 playoff games. Lorenz was named to both the AJHL All-Star Team (South) and All-Rookie Team. He was also named both the AJHL and CJHL Rookie of the Year. Lorenz’s season attracted the attention of Hockey Canada. He represented the country at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships. Lorenz picked up four assists in four tournament games.

Just 9 points in almost 40 games for University of Denver? What happened there?
Youngest player on the team (only 2004). DU had tons of returning or transfer forwards last season. 7 of the 9 forwards ahead of him were NHL drafted and older or more experienced. The other two were a junior and a 25 year old transfer. Coming in as true 18 year-old from the AJHL to the defending champs from the 2022 Frozen Four meant he was never going to be given a big role as a freshman.

Wont be easy this year either though as 6 of those drafted forwards are returning including Rizzo and Thompson plus adding Finnish 3rd rounder from 2022 Matikka and 5th round 2023 pick Sammy Harris.

Not selected to Canada's WJC camp. Would have been fun seeing him playing against his college coach in the middle of USA-Canada in Sweden.
