Thought he was easily the most overrated player I had read about from this 2008 age group around the world and then compared to what I saw at the WHC17.

Might've just been a bad tournament. Celebrini was sick at this tournament two years ago and wasn't that good. There've been some other players who memorably to me weren't good at this tournament and then went on to become high picks (Sennecke, Iginla, Carlsson, Cooley, Byfield), but he looked like a below average skater and the offensive game looks nothing special. I liked Desnoyers and Guite last year at this tournament a lot more compared to highly hyped Q forwards, and I think Villeneuve is a better draft prospect for 2026.

Dagenais isn’t in Sennecke, Iginla, Carlsson, Cooley or Byfield’s level of prospect though.

He got injured just before the tournament. He left his last game before his departure in the first period and didn’t return. I don’t know if it affected his play at the U17 but it was probably not serious since he played in the tournament. He sure had a disappointing tournament. I’m still not sure he’ll be a center going forward.

As for Guité, he was great last season and at the U17 but he’s having a disappointing year so far (4+4 in 19 games). Development isn’t linear and you hit walls and setbacks sometimes.

That’s disappointing. It seems he’s really slowed down in Q action too. 1 goal in his last 10 games, 0+1 in his last 5. Still PPG but really cooled off after that blistering start.

He’s 1+2 in his last 5 and like I said he left his last game early in the first period.

His PPG at the beginning was unsustainable.

Right, and all of that is fair. Some of the discussion had him as a better prospect than how Desnoyers and Guite were looked at last year (before Guite suddenly forgot how to score the last few months). That suggested a player who would get picked in the first half of the first round, and that’s not close to what I see from him.

Again though, don’t want to hold one short tournament against him. Possibly he’s a lot better than what he showed there, but just my early thoughts on Dagenais.

He has been put on the injured list by the Remparts so it might explain his low icetime and play at the U17.

Quebec diagnosed him with a concussion just before he left for the U17 and told Hockey Canada. HC let him play even if he had symptoms and he was clearly not himself on the ice.

Dagenais still hasn’t played since his return from the tournament.

And now HC are to blame? Sorry, but why does an injured child even go there (instead of letting someone else play)?
