He's a good complimentary forward. Jack of all trades with some offense, skating, size, physicality, defense, and playing in the dirty areas. He probably won't be a first round pick because he doesn't have A level offensive ability, but I could see him being a second or third round pick and being a good middle 6 NHL'er. He's currently playing as a winger on the NTDP 17's, but EP has him as a center, so I'll list him as a forward. Don't know if he can play center, but I could see it as a possibility. Committed to Boston University for 2025-26.

Missed the U17 challenge this year and still getting familiar with the '07s, but I really like Murtagh. He's got a solid frame and skates well. He's got a really good shot. He can beat goaltenders from a distance and pick his corners. Good release. Dangerous on the powerplay coming down the halfwall. He has nice hands and can make skilled plays.

Excited to see how he develops over his time with the development program but think he has top 6 NHL upside at this point. Younger for his draft year too which is a plus.

He has an NHL caliber release as a D-1 player. Very good shot. Sniper. His skating isn't as good as I thought it was. Not terrible, but if he can improve his explosiveness, he could be the gem of the '07s. He's got the size and puck skills to be very good.

Didn't come into the NTDP with anywhere near the hype of some of the other top forwards, but you can make an argument he's the best of them. Statistically he's also starting to elevate, and is right there in all the main offensive categories.

He's a lot of what so many people like so much about Ryan Leonard. The competitiveness and hockey sense allows him to be like a new age power/two-way winger.

His raw tools are not the best. He's only 6'0, average skater, B- offensive skills, but I don't think he's the type of player you have to worry about if he'll maximize what he can become.

Upside? I don't know how great it is, but I think he's looking like a first rounder for 2025. He's a very likable player.

6'0 186 to 6'1 198 in the preseason measurements. Can see him being a 6'1 200+ power forward in the NHL. The added size helps him out, and I think there's a decent chance he'll be a first rounder.

He was the only player that I liked when the US played the CHL a few months back. Seems like he's got a natural scorer's touch. A team can never have enough of those.

I think he's probably the consensus highest rated of the NTDP forwards at this point (you'll find the occasional person who prefers McKinney and maybe there's like one or two that still like Moore), but it seems most have settled on Murtagh as the best, and I don't think I disagree with it either. Think he's pretty much fairly viewed as a highly likely first rounder, and it's now just a question of if that ends if being like 16-25 or 25-32.

I don't see Murtagh being an NHL driver. He's not skilled enough for that and doesn't have enough playmaking, but he's competitive, he skates better than his reputation I think (his speed is average, but his feet are always moving), has a decent shot, and can pull off the occasional highlight-reel play. I really like his competitiveness, and the edge he plays with. He's not a shit-disturber, but he gives his all every shift and will battle anyone. His motor is his best attribute, and why I think he at least ends up a bottom 6 forward. Could see him ending up a second line winger also. He mostly plays as a winger, but I did see him play center this year for the first time and I thought it went okay and I don't see why he doesn't have the skillset to try center. I don't know if he was a natural center before the NTDP, but he's rarely played center at the NTDP over the two years, so it's probably unlikely it ends up his position in pro hockey.
