I was wondering if his playmaking is off the charts like his dad. Judging by those stats though he looks like a goal scorer.

What's the scouting report on him?

any updates on how danny looks this season? where's he projected - 3rd to 5th?

Not surprising, guys like him and Beecher were always going to get buried. I get choosing the USNTDP path if you are a legit top 6 player or top 4 defender for them, but otherwise, it is probably in kids best interests to go to a USHL or CHL team.

While that makes sense in some cases, there are some benefits to being on the NTDP that a young player cannot get in the USHL or CHL. Access to a world class training facility, an opportunity to travel and play abroad, and an almost-guarantee of an NCAA Division I scholarship offer (very few NTDP players do not get one) can all be important to a player who very likely will not make it to the NHL.

Especially in Weight´s case. With London´s depth, there is no guarantee that he would be playing anything more than a 3rd line role there anyway this year. Instead he has that scholarship to BC in his back pocket and should he get drafted, his options remain open.

I agree, but Weight and Beecher are not good comparables. Beecher is a good player and a likely top 2 rounds pick. He’s not the offensive player that some of his teammates are, but he has a 200 foot game that should see him play in the NHL. Weight isn’t a draftable prospect, in my opinion.

It seems most USNTDP kids come into the program with significant offers. I mean, Beecher committed to Michigan before he even played a game for the USNTDP. Weight committed prior to playing a game too. Although, nothing is binding until your letter of intent as a high-school senior.

And, while I get the importance of education, how many of these guys actually flame out to the extent that they stop playing hockey after graduation and go into the workforce? It seems most of them toil around either minor leagues or Europe into their early 30's.

I just think, if you are likely to get buried (or have been buried in your U-17 year), it is probably better to seek out somewhere you can play, if your goal is to make it in professional hockey. Whether that is CHL or USHL (where you keep your eligibility).
