Biasca is an underrated Swiss forward prospect that just got taken 5th by Halifax in the import Draft and deserves his own thread. Here are some thoughts about him that I already mentioned in the Import Draft thread:

Havent seen him a whole lot but I always liked what I saw when I did. He is a high octane player that never takes off a shift and is also very consistent on a day to day basis as his scoring was very spread out over the last year with the Zug junior team. He reminds my a lot of Kurashev with a worse shot but he seems to be much more consistant than his countryman. He is a very good skater and has excellent hands and puck protection. Offensively he can both score goals and shoot and dish the puck even though he has to work on his shot power. He is a super underated prospect who has increased his standing tremendously in Switzerland over the last two years. Most people believe Lorenzo Canonica (who got taken by Shawinigan) is the best Swiss 03 forward but I believe Biasca is just as promising if not more. I wouldnt expect a prospect who is quite on the Hischier/Meier/Ehlers level but I believe he can be a line driver and first line winger for Halifax eventually. I also think his playing style and already solid frame should make the translation to NA relatively easy.

Here is EP profile.

I hope he can get on the radar of the scouts in halifax next year. I always didn’t understand why nobody talked about him.

Played well and scored overtime winner for Switzerland today against Finland.

Why was he limited to 39 games in his first season with Halifax and is he a legitimate overage prospect?

He was actually limited to 19 games in his first season in Halifax - Covid year.

Anything could happen but I suspect he’ll be nothing more than a really good swiss national player.

Good to very good player in the NLA is the most likely scenario for him in my oppinion. Maybe someone will sign him and he will try a few years in the AHL but I doubt he willl be able to make the NHL full time even on the bottom line. But stranger things than that have happened so never say never.

Very good player. Not as physical as I'd like and that could be what's ultimately gonna stop him from getting a shot at NHL level but other than that I'm a fan. Great hands, great skater and versatile as well. Great leader on and off the ice...as a Swiss player you don't get to captain Halifax unless you're something special. Also, this is his "home" tournament. I totally expected him to show up for this one. By far the most dangerous Swiss forward unless Taibel has a breakout tournament. Just a pitty Biasca doesn't get to play the group games in Halifax but Moncton isn't too far away either.

How did he become captain of the Mooseheads? Anyone know? Seemed like he had a lackluster year last season and with him being an import as well it seems like a weird choice. Obviously it seems like a great choice now but what was the decision process like?

Favreau said in looking for this year's captain, coaches and management looked to see who were the natural leaders on the team — senior players who take younger ones under their wing on and off the ice to show what is expected of them.

Favreau said these factors, as well as Biasca's maturity, social nature and resilience in overcoming injuries, are why he was named team captain.

Should be drafted in the summer. Have size, speed, skills and grit. Was great in WJC.
I don't know about grit but yeah, he did get stronger over the years. I doubt he gets drafted though. It's his last year of eligibility and from what I gather teams mostly draft older goalies or/and players out of Europe. I don't think many CHL skaters got drafted in their last year of eligibility. Also, Biasca may be Captain in Halifax and one of their most important players on and off the ice this season but it's not like he's completely dominating the league. Hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Maybe grit is the wrong word, but he worked very hard in every game i saw.

Mikael Renberg, who was one of the hardest working players all-time praised Biascas work ethic many times.

Once again passed through the draft. Was he invited to any development camps?
Probably the same discussion we had in the Tommaso De Luca thread. Not invited to any development camps because it doesn’t make sense to fly back to North America instead of preparing for the upcoming season back home.

Yeah but unlike DeLuca, Biasca was no longer hoping to get drafted. So him even getting an invite was probably unlikely in the first place. Zug's training camp does start in early August but unlike DeLuca, Biasca doesn't have an international tournament to play in July. Not saying he would have but I guess Biasca was more likely to accept an offer. For DeLuca, it really wouldn't have made sense.
