Odd that it took so long.

He didn't stand out on a very deep, young Texas Stars squad. He needs a lot of work. Idaho should help boost his confidence, at the very least.

First season in the AHL didn't play much. Healthy scratch, ECHL assignment but around March he started getting selected, and produced down the stretch for a playoff team. Finished a modest 12 points in 19 games. Then continued getting games in the playoffs. Scoreless but 4 playoff games showed the staff thought he improved as the season went on and trusted him when it mattered most.

This season he's been a staple in a deep lineup with 10 points in 14 games, including 2 goals and an assist in tonight's game. Still has some defensive issues to work on and needs to make better decisions on when to pass vs shoot but he's been a relentless driver of offensive chances so far in the young season and has hit the post 5 times already.

He's behind Stankoven and Bourque but Dallas' aging team has plenty of spots opening up in the next few seasons and if he keeps up the scale of improvements he's made so far the kid's going to be an NHLer in two seasons. His linemate Chase Wheatcroft also deserves some love as he's been good in his debut AHL season.

11 GP, 14 PTS. Finally breaking out in the A. Problem is, he's got too many guys in front of him on the Stars' organizational depth chart to get a real shot in the league. Hope he gets traded so I can see him in some NHL games.

I watched him in junior in his DY, was a frustrating floater type of player, but really figured it out in his D+2 in London and seems to be figuring it out in the A with Texas.

Maybe sometime this season he'll get the injury call-up, cup of coffee with Dallas where he sees maybe a game but gets scratched for the others, like we've seen in the past with Blumel or Tufte.

Would be pretty cool to see, if he can continue progressing as he has.

Stars aren't deep or young at LW behind Robertson. Benn is 35 now and Marchment isn't guaranteed to be here long-term . Stranges should get his shot at some point. The team invested quite a bit into his development. They're not just dumping him before trying out if he can't be an NHL player.

The guy was drafted as a high upside project forward that was going to take years in development. Now that it's starting to pay off moving him would be stupid. Like when the Leafs moved Marchment for a fringe NHL player after spending lots of time and resources in his development only to watch Marchment almost imidiately become an NHL player after beeing moved and eventually even a top6 option.

No point moving on too quickly from project prospects like that.
