People defending the World Cup format are claiming there's nothing exciting about seeing Canada or the U.S. pulverizing nations like Switzerland or Slovakia (which in reality almost never happens anyway).

Yet, people are entertained when the "Young Stars" are steamrolling over "Europe". In exhibition games nonetheless. 4-0 in the first game and already 5-1 after one period in the second game.

Explain it please.

Maybe the people saying they don't want Canada/US steamrolling Slovakia aren't the same people enjoying Europe get demolished?

I think the game is kinda boring tbh. Nice seeing the fancy passes and plays by team na I guess. Would rather a more competitive game tho

What some want is a 30-40 team event we would see many 50-0 scores.

Personally I take no joy in A.) Seeing a team Europe conglomerate squad even exist. B.) Seeing them get thrashed by this.

It's the talent and speed of NA that is a delight to watch.

This is perfect for everyone who shares NHL's view of international competition. They get two arguments to do this again: the gimmick team idea is a success because one of them played well and no need to include the not-top6 Euro teams in future either, because an unmotivated badly managed and coached bunch of leftovers got destroyed.

They are not even getting thrashed anymore, it is 5-3 going into the third and Team Europe has been slowing them down and making a game of it.

The NA kids slowed themselves down, it's what happens in hockey when you're up 3-4 goals. Even more so in an exhibition game. Not much reason for the kids to step on the pedal anymore.

Same thing usually happens when Canada is leading against the worlds weaker hockey nations, thus making blowout wins much less frequent than people here seem to suggest.

North America is a fun team to watch because they are like an amped up version of the U20s. Lots of skill, but also lots of mistakes which leads to crazy plays, plus their speed and they are just all over the place.

Team Europe looks a bunch of guys there because they have to be.

A little of that but Europe didn't get blown out tonight, they ended up playing them pretty well and exposing some things they will have to work on going forward.

Because according to many posts here suggesting tons of hybrid teams, the international hockey is made just to make some NHL fans entertained. Thats all that matters. Fun, entertainment. I didn't know how close was Bettman to his targeted group when he brought this format. It obviously could be even much worse.

I like this Team North America, lots of speed and exciting hockey from them for sure. Looking forward to seeing them at the tournament.
