I think that’s always been the thought. The EP stuff just seems like a smokescreen to try to get better offers for Miller.
Interesting. So they are going to build around EP40.
Honestly it makes sense, I said a year ago JT Miller was sociopathic in the locker room.
You ship out the source of the problem, not the symptoms of the problem.

I think given where the Canucks find themselves this season, it makes more sense to keep the younger player with the higher upside. Miller makes sense for a cup contender that will get the most out of him during a playoff run, but that’s probably not Vancouver.

It also makes sense if we do have to hold off for a few years to let some of the young kids establish themselves. Almost all of our core players, including Boeser won't, even be 30 yet. Demko is the sole exception, who'd be 31 in two years.

Lower cap hit and term. More playoff grit that contenders want. Contenders also usually have a strong leadership core established and can weather any locker room disruptions.

Yeh I think it’s JT that’ll be trade. I flip flopped before on who I thought it was going to be. But it seems all signs are pointing to Jt now.

I wouldn’t consider Boeser a core piece, and with Demko’s injury troubles it might be time to look who’s next for goalies.

I’d rather build a team with a solid defense and a goalie like Lankinen then a defense like the Canucks’ currently have and a goalie like Demko.

Lankinen would be fine if Silovs could step up. He’s a 1B / competent back up level goalie. I wouldn’t take him as a starter. Defence needs to be rebuilt around Hughes, Hronek and Willander (next season)

Eh I'm not a Canucks fan so I'm probably speaking out of my ass, but the whole "JT is the heart of the team" stuff feels like hyperbole.
It is hyperbole. When he's working hard and things are going well there is no doubt he is on ice leader. But when it isn't and he gets into his sulky moods well that's the type of player that is incredibly frustrating to have in the room.

They get past the trade Miller/E.P drama that should bring a 4D/2C and they still would have to move Boeser if unable to sign cheaper.
Can the Canucks really gel in two new top six players and get rolling?

Might explain why we see no movement.
They are praying for a rebound or its rebuild that leaves the team unrecognizable. Fans would freak out. Just not seeing a trade that gets them going again.

Miller missed 10 games and has been playing hurt since camp. Had a wrist /forearm early then the mental health break and since has a neck thing that has been noticeably bothering him. Rumour is that might have been the reason his camp was delayed to get going. He's been gutting through it but has been inconsistent and it's set him and Boeser back to say nothing about his and Pettersson obviously at odds about things which has just added more issues and the drama that hasn't gone away because both are struggling as is the team.

Boeser was badly concussed by Tanner Jeannot early on and for at least 7-10 games after looked pretty bad. he's been scoring and playing better but also caught in the middle of the 2 star C's play and whatever off ice crap that is reality.

It drives me crazy that a 4th line plug can recklessly target the head of a 40 goal scorer get 3 games and then come back and be doing his thing healthy while Boeser is out 7 games and then another 7-10 to get back to speed. NHL is not serious about protecting its stars.....end rant

Pettersson IDK what the hell is going on. He's had some issues with knee tendinitis apparently from Jan 2024 but through it all he's not endearing himself to many. Threatens leaving then signs a massive deal. Goes on to play bad...like really bad and make excuses. Then when you think he will come back this year and at least in the regular season be a force he's just continued with mercurial lackluster performances. Looked weaker and slower to start camp when we were all hoping last playoffs would get him adding some beef and jacked up and has been attacked by Miller and called out by his coach and GM. It's hard to tell if he cares anymore or wants to be in Van.

Demko being out has been a fairly big problem. Early on Lankinen was so good it wasn't worth complaining or making much a fuss over it. Silovs did cost us some pts but he aslo could have been the full time back up without the Demko injury forcing us to get Lankinen. Over the last month Lankinen has been ia large drop off from what we usually get from Demko though so it just has kept compounding

Lastly and maybe even the biggest issue has been the defense. Myers and Soucy both 4/5 D have been used as 2/3s with Hronek out. The decision to walk from both Cole and Zadorov has been a disaster. Juulsen Desharnais Forbort are just awful at doing anything but protecting the house. Can't defend the rush, can't move well enough against the cycle to close it off or regain possession. Cant make a good first pass (Forbort is ok) and above all are just about as useless as can be at doing anything at the offensive blueline other than having their shots blocked or a dump behind the net. It's pretty routine that even a simple high dump to center ice with pressure turns into a board smash and lost possession. It's ugly and was a huge mistake. Cole and Z had poise and made simple calm accurate passes to relieve pressure. These guys are a comedy of errors. Thank F that Hronek is back but even Hughes has been playing now since Xmas with a messed up hand/wrist which has ruined his shot and some of his puckhandling hard passes.

2024 was not our year for issues

As far as Pettersson and Miller if we trade one were done as a contender. Miller is the guy who gets the top C's and has the physicality to deal with it. Pettersson in top form is one of highest P/60 scorers in the NHL. They both flank the PP and PK and drive the bus up front. If you lose one without a comparable C coming back they might as well retool. It's highly doubtful any team is gonna want to welcome potential drama and throw us their best players mid season. if it doesn't resolve on and off ice their will be big changes coming this summer though
You echo what most fans tell me at the game and talk in the beer league dressing rooms. Bolded gives Canucks fans Bure flashbacks (not nearly the same skill but playing like they don't want to be here is concerning).

You just want Pettersson to commit to the team and Tocchet's coaching philosophy. All of this can easily be avoided for the Canucks if Pettersson would just commit more to the team and system. Fans would be won over by a passionate compete level and accept the mistakes. Miller would get off his back (probably already has) and the team could compete with most in the West.

JT Miller, Desharnais for Zadorov, Zacha, 2nd
That is somehow even worse. Miller is one of our top players, plays any forward position, consistently is above a point per game since coming to Vancouver, is physical.....and Zadorov or Carlo are a fair main piece in your mind?

You down grade from JT to Zacha. Upgrade from Desharnais to Carlo/Zadorov. And then you get an extra 2nd to boot.

Both teams fill needs.

A Carlo/Zadorov upgrade isn't worth Miller, Hronek is bumping Desharnais down anyway, and Zacha is a dime a dozen player. Miller is closer the Pastrnak/McAvoy tier than the Carlo/Zadorov/Zacha tier.

Yeh I don't think Pasta/McAvoy is happening for JT though. And even if it did you guys are down a Center and Hughes is already plays the role a McAvoy would (PPQB/#1 D). The fit isn't there.

What about JT Miler, Desharnais for Zacha, Frederic, Zadorov. You replace JT's grit with Frederic. And you get TWO younger Centers than can develop with time.

None of those pieces provide anything we don't already have, or couldn't acquire without Miller being included. This is like asking for Pasta and, I dunno, Peeke, by offering DeBrusk or even Boeser, Myers and swapping a second round pick for Hoglander.

Zacha is of little interest to us, maybe worth a 3rd round pick and which ever bottom six forward we see him replacing, and a second pairing D, even one better than Myers or Soucy, isn't worth Miller.

Also, 26 and 27 aren't what I'd consider young, especially compared to someone 31.
