Prospect Info: Everything Edvinsson

So let's say that Edvinsson doesn't hit his offensive ceiling and is regulated to a more a 3/4 role. Can he PK? Is he physical? Does he block shots? I know a lot of people think his floor is pretty high, so just wondering if that's because he has those aspects of his game.

If his development totally stalled, he didn't learn a single thing more than he already knows, I think he'd be a lot like Ristolainen. A few seasons of good, even great, production (if given enough PP time), and solid physicality that can't quite cover up the missed coverages and turnovers defensively. He'd be that offensive #4/5 whom you shouldn't quite trust against top competition. That defenseman who produces well while getting hammered defensively when forced into a top line role that he can't handle.

That's assuming his development totally stalled out though. He has the tools to be a total menace defensively: blocking shots, eating up the whole ice with his skating and long stick, mugging people in the corners and clearing the net front. He has shown that he can be that, just too inconsistently thus far. In a bad, but not quite worst case scenario, I think he has a solid path to exactly what you're thinking.

Until ASP +1 other d prospect that's a second pairing guy I would really like to see our version of a very young Weber/Suter.

What I think has hurt Seider on the physical side is past 2 year's he was straddled with year 1 chia pet thinking he was Mike Green, and year 2 of Walman who while not bad was definitely a bit too offensive minded. Because of this he had to adjust to be a more steady stay at home player who couldn't take a lot of risks due to lack of defensive support.

I gotta say, in a year where Power went 1st and Hughes went 4th and how they're doing defensively in the NHL, drafting Big Ed at 6th seems like a total boon comparatively. Numbers are great, but playing in a true top pair role demands for being a "Pietrangelo type" over a "Bouchard type". I think you guys might understand what I mean there

....(not to trash on Bouchard, I hope ASP could turn into a fraction of that)

For a guy who's "figuring out offense", Ed's age 21 and has 8 points in 18 games. He seems to kinda just show up on the scoreboard and it helps when you're often iced with guys like Larkin, no doubt. I think he can be good for a yearly 45+ points eventually landing on PP2 considering he gets zero time on the PP as it stands

Being a beast alongside Seider has been an underrated part of this turbulent season early on

I'm becoming more and more convinced that he'll become better than Seider.

It's really not gonna be fun for other teams to go up against Ed-Mo in a couple years. It's probably not fun now, so just imagine when they've physically matured.

Just gotta add one more top-4D, preferably a defensive one to play with ASP.

I don't think him stepping into a big top pairing role this season and playing well is getting talked about enough. I know this is downstream from the rest of the roster being lousy, but the team being completely sunk without him speaks to how important he's already become.

This is why I hate lalonde. The fact that Ed still doesn't get pp time over Gustafsson or petry is insanity. But yes 8 points in 18 games is very good. I truly believe he will end up being our number 1 dman he has more potential than seider and is better at passing the puck too.

Pretty great? 5th on the team, and better than Hedman his first 3 seasons.

I can't think of any defenseman I would trade him for right now except Makar, but even then I'd force the Avs to take Copp or Compher because of the salary difference.

Amongst other things already mentioned, he adds some toughness to this 10 ply team.

I think the reason he doesn't get PP time is because he is already playing a lot of minutes, both PK and top match ups. You could try giving him PP2, but I think it might be too many minutes for a kid with so few games under his belt.
