I would retain him unless a second or equivalent was available. Give a Laval pivot like beck a chance
really? with Dvorak also 100% gone, who plays Cs?
suzuki, Dach (who's still not in game shape) and ....Rookies?

They'll try to resign Evans and they certainly aren't trading him for a 3rd.
guaranteed.
They have 7 picks in the 1st 3 rounds

I’d offer Jakob Pelletier and a 4th round pick for Evans. Would love to upgrade the 4th line centre position on the Flames and think he could contribute over the next few seasons in the bottom 6 (assuming we’d resign him before offseason).

He's one of the best 4th line centers in the league which has value but its still 4th line.

Early 3rd/ very late 2nd round pick value I think.
Slightly less than Lars Eller fetches
Slightly more than Nico Sturm fetches

Jakob Pelletier is small and has not shown he can be effective as an NHL player- but he's French!!! Sorry, but Jakob Pelletier and a 4th-round pick isn't going to get it done. The Habs will re-sign Evans if they can come to a mutually agreeable deal, or they will wait for a better offer.

Yeah, I knew this would be the reaction. Worth a try, and it could be the starting point in a trade negotiation. Flames really aren’t in a position to overpay for a rental, but if they thought he was a part of the future and would resign reasonably I could see a better offer to the Habs.

What would Evans get Montreal at the the deadline. Pending UFA at 1.7$
A pick and or a prospect I suppose , but at some point we have to stop rebuilding and start building . A player like Evans in the bottom six can be just as important as players like Suzuki , Caufield or Dach in the top six . IMO the Habs should try to resign him .

I was looking at the advanced analytics for the Habs today and it's a nightmare of bad performances by the vast majority of that roster.

But Evans and Dvoark are actually two of the rare exceptions to the analytics fiasco that is the 2024-25 Habs.

If Evans can play relatively well on this ish-show of a team... Is this the type guy that probably plays even better on a team that doesn't stink?

Dvorak may also fit into that bucket.

I'd be interested in either of these guys if the Habs put them on the market.

The Habs may want to think about resigning one or both of them.

Dvorak is available for cheap.

For Evans, you need an offer the Habs can't refuse unless Evans prices himself out on an extension.

If he becomes available, the Devils should be all over it. No idea what his value is but, if it's a pick or 2 they should do it.

He is one of those players that is more worth to keep than to trade. Habs should try to re sign him to an extension.

He kills penalties, hustles, pretty good at face offs, plays physical. You need to keep those fourth line centers on any hockey team. They are very difficult to replace.

Keep in mind that his max value would be a 2nd from a playoff team. That puts the pick in the #45-64 range. If someone told you that you would draft a player who will play 400+ career games (he is at 280 now), kill penalties, good at face offs and pace for 30 points a season I’m sure everyone would take that.
