I'd say Vancouver would win with trading Horvat for a better defensive center with some scoring touch who is signed to cheaper contract. Minnesota on the other hand need an offensive 1C to play with Kaprizov. I think Horvat will be beauty along with Kirill.

Of course Minnesota won't trade EEk for Horvat as a rental so they need to talk about his next contract first.

Why would a team that is playing at a 14 million a year disadvantage in cap space to the rest of the league, trade one of the best contracts in the league for an older, similarly skilled player that is due for a hefty raise?

JEE is signed for 6 more years. Horvat doesn't come close to returning him as a pending UFA. There is no "talk about the next contract" because that's not how negotiations work. Minny has the exact same rights to sign him to the exact same amount of term at any point in trade discussions so that's not a bargaining chip

Weird. I mean there were a lot of trades when teams resigned players the next day they got them. So you think negotiations took just one day in those cases?

EEk in previous 3 seasons: 108 points in 195 game
Horvat in previous 3 seasons: 144 points in 195 games.

EEk this season: 4+6 in 13 games
Bo Horvat: 12+4 in 14 games.

And I don't count faceoffs...

Are you sure about "similarly skilled player"?

Ek’s best “skill” is his defensive ability.

Horvat is a good target for Minnesota. Eriksson Ek isn’t going anywhere though.

Gotta love when someone points out something neuanced in an argument while ignoring the broader point of the post.

Here: I’ll say it again because you seemed to have not read it the first time.

The Minnesota Wild, because of the Suter and Parise buyouts, have 12 million dollar less than the rest of the league to spend this year, then almost $15 Million less for two more years after.

Why would they trade Joel Eriksson Ek, who is signed for 6 more years at $5.25M per season, for a player, set to be a UFA, and due for a pay raise likely north of $8M a season? It makes ZERO sense for Minnesota to trade Ericsson Ek In this scenario.

I like Horvat but he’s a pending UFA. I’d avoid this deal if I’m Minnesota.

Goalie seems good but the contract situations change everything.

Horvat would best be a complement to Ek considering we're downright atrocious down the middle. Removing one for another is a lateral move at best.

That's cool in theory but in reality Minnesota needs a center for Kaprizov. It looks like Rossi isn't going to be this center, and they don't have other top center prospect. So you either trade someone good to get such a center or do nothing. And no, Dumba won't bring Minnesota any good center...

EEK is clearly not coming back in a Horvat trade to Minny. come on.

Well it isn't cool at all. We suck down the middle, and unsure why you brought up Dumba.

The point is, Ek, Foligno and Greenway were one of the most effective 5v5 lines in the league last year in terms of xGF% and didn't allow a 5v5 goal against until like March. Given our lack of top-6 talent, having an elite shutdown line is vital if we want to stay somewhat relevant. Making this move is like removing a bandaid from one wound and placing it over another. Not helping.

I don't see why Vancouver would do this. If they're trading a signed Horvat, I don't think they'd do it for Eriksson-Ek.

Canucks fans expectation for a horvat trade is more towards younger prospects and picks than established player for another one. Not even fans I think management has that in mind too.

Wild likely can't afford to pay Horvat what he wants with all the dead money on their books. Definitely not if he keeps up his inflated contract year scoring pace.
