Leo was intentionally load-managed as a rookie. Based on the comments from Torts and Brierw, Michkov was scratched for his play.

Same with Michkov. He wasn't so bad that they had to bench him. It was strategic.

I highly doubt Dustin Wolf wins it, and while he'll get some votes, he'll probably get fewer votes than he truly deserves. It's really difficult to compare goaltenders to skaters, so being a goaltender is simply a strike against him when it comes to the Calder race. It's also uncommon for goaltenders to win individual trophies that are open to all players, such as the Calder, unless they're clearly better than their (skater) competition for the award by a very large margin. That's another strike against him.

I'm not saying that he's deserving of winning it, and feel that it's Macklin Celebrini's to lose at this point of the season (unless something drastic happens), but it's an interesting thing to point out.

...I totally get what your saying, however I believe that if the Rookie point race stays close and Wolf continues to drag Calgary to a PO spot, it should, imo, go to Wolf...

Interesting, I remember seeing the below from Torts in late October. Following that quote, Michkov’s ice time was cut in the couple games that followed and then he was scratched:

"He's a 19-year-old kid playing in the best league in the World. He's totally not concentrated on certain parts of the game. If I see other guys going, then he's going to sit and watch a bit. That's all that was. He has had some struggles."

One was planned absence for physical development, the other was unplanned based on poor performance. They aren't remotely comparable situations.

Yes of course. I know it's so hard to compare the F v D v G, but I just feel if it's close, the voters will lean towards the top line C that was a 1st overall pick.

Who knows, this will go down to the wire. It's awesome to watch.

He is 23 years old and had already played +100 pro games before this season. Rightly or wrongly there will be those he will hold that against him.

That standard doesn't usually apply to goalies. A top pick (at F or D) is coming into the league at 18 or 19. An elite goalie prospect isn't making it to the NHL until 21 or 22 at the earliest

Thats just rude Summer! If the Flames make the playoffs, than hes going to get a ton of looks and votes. More and more media are noticing him on the east coast. This road trip the Flames are currently on is going to open some eyes.

The lack of degenerates on HF is actually surprising, because you'd understand that Celebrini at his odds is not remotely a lock/penciled in for the trophy - it's legitimately going to come down to this final stretch with Celebrini holding a lead at the moment.
