I think if Carolina wasn't as deep as they are, Jackson Blake would at least be in the conversation. He's played really well on the 4th line and he has a nose for the net. He's also done well on the second power play getting a goal and an assist.

I understand why he’s not getting more attention here and I’m not saying he’s on the tier of a Celebrini or Michkov going forward, but people are really sleeping on Blake. He’s been very good during this first quarter of the season. Second in goals among rookies and he passes the eye test, very shifty player who gets no press at all.

Ahhh yes, the other half where you narrowed down from 4 frontrunners, to 2. Gutsy.

You are strange. My goal wasn’t to be “gutsy”. There’s nothing wrong with predicting the two it will come down to in a field of 5 or 6. Lots of people have been doing similar.

Hard to say. As unfair as it is he probably wouldn't really be in the convo given the offense shown from some of the other guys, and the unreal play from Wolf. It's hard for defenseman to win a lot of awards, and as he's not really an offensive guy with this rookie class looking very strong, he'd be on the outside looking in.

Hmm, might not be worth arguing this point too much. But is lack of production really it?

He's got more points than Michkov, Hutson and Celebrini on ES, while getting some of the most defensive deployments in the league.

It’s bizarre to me that people think this is actually what happened and not that MM very likely told teams not to draft him in the pre draft interviews
Its bizzare to speculate things like that when Michkov was known as a player who had all the interviews, was named as a small, lazy, low iq, bad character, bad defensively, soft etc, but no one said that he rejected them if they will pick him. There were talk about Arizona only from his agent, but he said personally that even if he would be drafted by them he would play for them anyway with all the effort.

And we can see how low his effort is, how bad physically he is, how bad his iq is etc.

But people just can't stop to try to find some reason to sh1t on very talented young player no matter how bad his partners are and how consistently he is producing and creating moments.
__________

Anyway, its interesting race where I can't say who will win it. Stankoven has a chance to produce much more if he will find his groove and earn top 6 spot. Celebrini and Michkov are looking great, both are playing like 1OA caliber players(Bedard did it too, don't attack on me please) who will lead their team in the the near present. Great calder race with different runners who is deserving the best.

Perhaps I put too much belief into Elliotte Friedman’s podcast soon after the draft insinuating Michkov had certain teams he would sign with and play for. It fits the narrative as to why some teams would pass on him. “Bizarre” might have been poor wording on my part and in no way am I understating the kid. Right now, he 100 percent deserves the Calder and is a spectacle to watch

I'm not so sure about who deserves Calder more. Even if I like Michkov a lot, I still think him and Celebrini are very close now and I understand arguments for both.

Michkov said that he had interviews with all teams, the most strange was with Montreal(for example they asked him what position he played through the season), and he said he was very happy that he was picked by Flyers because they were the most interesting in him before the draft, but his dream was to play in nhl overall, he was exited for having this opportunity and he would play for any club no matter who woukd pock him. I believe if he would lie or tried to hide some truth, some team would be vocal about his words on the interview, especially when some teams were vocal about how they don't like him as a player. Friedman.... you need aa lot of thoughts to create so much content.

Celebrini adds another goal to move up to 6 points in his last 4 games.

Still think it’s Michkov’s to lose, but the field is certainly making it an interesting one.

Looking more and more like Celebrini will pass Michkov and take the Calder. Lots of season left though.

If Michkov or Celebrini were on Dallas this race would already be over by now.

Lol what? Stars are a deep team which means less opportunity for them. Stankoven's linemates are struggling big time right now too.

Truth is, Michkov and Celebrini would likely have worse numbers if they were on Dallas right now. Powerplay is horrendous and 3 forwards besides Stankoven are producing (and they all play on one line). Celebrini may be fine but Michkov would be struggling cause the Stars PP would not be pumping his numbers that's for sure

Do a laughing emoji to this post if you agree :)

But for real, the Stars PP is dreadful. Not sure why people think those rookies would produce more when the Stars top 3 forwards aren't producing well right now because of it

I think he picks up steam and makes it a lot less interesting than it currently is- just seems like he’s learning quickly. Love his game, happy the sharks got him.

You think Celebrini is going to make the Calder race less interesting while Michkov exists? 🤣😂 Love Celebrini’s game but come on. Michkov just hit a post and almost won his 3rd OT game this year already the other night, as it stands right now he’s clearly ahead offensively.

I think it'll end up being Celebrini as he just looks quite comfortable in the NHL. All the other rookies you can just see they're learning and not entirely comfortable yet.

Interesting take, I’ve only caught a few of Celebrini games so I’m not as knowledgeable if you’ve watched him more. When the Flyers played him he was completely invisible and Michkov was great. So because he had a hot steak in the past few he’s clearly more comfy or? Is there legit evidence to this, I’d love to be informed, I love his 2-way game I think he’s advanced in a way I don’t remember seeing on the defensive side of the ice in awhile for an 18 year old, that I’m willing to completely agree with. He’s a great kid, with an awesome attitude, any team would be lucky to have him, I just would like to understand better. Also, Stankoven is right there although he’s kind of a “rookie” who knows he’s on an elite roster and is quite a player. I feel like voters will def lean towards Celebrini or Michkov if it’s close with him specifically, even if it’s not technically “correct”.
