Man asks wife and family after a hard long taxing year, how they would feel about him doing the same job again is bizarre? Yikes.
Can you imagine the indignity of a man needing his wife's permission to keep working!!?

Jeez, it's almost as if they are equal partners within a family and both are allowed to share their wants and needs.

Kyle sure did a 180: Dubas 'willing to bet everything' on Leafs core

"For better or worse, I believe in this group and I believe that they are going to get it done and I believe that they're going to win," Dubas said Thursday, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston. "I understand that comes with certain doubt because of the fact that we have not broken through in the playoffs, but it's my belief that they will.

"I believe in them as players, I believe in them as people, and I know that decision lies on me and what the risk is for me. We're going ahead that way. So I'm comfortable with it
. I believe that we're going to see the best version of this group next season that we've seen yet and I'm willing to bet everything on that."

This is one of the reasons I wanted him gone. It seems he wasn't willing to even consider changing up the core until his job was actually on the line. He needed to be right

Who's the GM in the event that Dubas takes the year off? Where might Dubas resurface once he decides to step back in? Those are the only questions I might have if and when things ever reach such a point.

Sure...he wants to take a year off when all the real decision need to be made.

Full court press from the Dubas shills in the media. "He cares so much.....he even cried during the presser!"
Even the Soviets had standards.

I believe he was willing to risk his job on the Core 4, I think he thought the group was going to break through, but a year later and they did not. So now, a year later he’s willing to consider changes and his belief in the core has definitely gone down after this year.

The thing is I got from the presser and from what insiders are saying, it sounds like the ball is in his court weather he’s going to be the GM next season.

Still trying to understand what was so taxing on his family if it wasn't health related. Is it because he has 2 young children and it was hard for his wife to manage on her own? I'm sympathetic cuz it is tough being a young parent dealing with kids and he travels a lot so it must have been a lot on his wife.

Still, I don't think he would pass this job up. Even if he takes a year off, his kids are still young.

My sense is he wants more $$$$$$ ... it always comes down to that.

I believe Kyle cares a lot for the people around him but I also think he is too attached as a GM . Unfortunately he is going to have to be a little more cutthroat and businesslike to move forward and make the truly hard decisions that he hasnt made yet, like firing his buddy, or trading 1-2 of the core that he has stood so firmly behind in the past. It feels like thats where his I have to talk to my family first came from. He is deciding whether he can make those decisions and live with himself which if it is the case I can appreciate where he is coming from but this is professional sports and a certain amount of cold bloodedness needs to be present IMO.

I think it most likely just caused him a lot of stress, which indirectly had an impact on his family as a whole. Just from the Tampa series, this guy is seriously invested and was probably stressing/worrying about everything this entire year.

talk about entitled, how does he expect to put food on the table for his family if his wife doesn’t approve of his job?
Happy wife happy life.
Anyway, I believe the whole family thing is BS. There must be something behind the scenes, he either will be let go very soon or the extension including some extremely uncomfortable causes (firing the coach, less autonomy, trading the core etc....).

Unless it'd be for familial reasons, it seems awkward that he might take the year off. That probably won't be what ends up happening.

I can't believe there are posters in here that think Dubas should be promoted to President. That is the very definition of "failing upward".
By every report he has improved the off ice quality of the entire organization by leaps and bounds. Players love it here. Maybe being the President is where he should be and let someone else focus on the on-ice product?

Stress. Do not underestimate what stress can do to a family.

Head GM experience:

-Back up the money truck and poach Doug Armstrong from St-Louis. He could turn out to be Brian Burke but can't argue with all the good work Armstrong has done there for a long time.

-Treliving I think did ok in Calgary for the most part.

-Doug Wilson did AWFUL in San Jose towards the end of his tenure but maybe a change of scenery could do him good. He was one of the premier GMs for awhile, he just never got the job done.

Little to no experience:

-Eric Tulsky probably will be the most sought after GM very soon, if he isn't already. Another "nerd" with a much different approach than old school GMs. A big reason why Carolina has been fairly strong and consistent for awhile.

-Brandon Pridham is getting calls right now and has a lot of experience in the front office. He knows the players and the city, so the transition would be smooth.

-Jason Spezza probably needs more time to learn but could be part of the discussion.

-Mathieu Darche from TBL has interviewed for a few jobs and seems to be an up and coming GM. He's been part of the the contract negotiations for TBL and has done well it looks like.

-Martin Madden is the AGM of the Anaheim Ducks. He was their amateur head scout for a long time and I always felt their drafts were so good. Not much managerial experience but a good eye for talent goes a long way.

-Hailey Wickenheiser probably doesn't want it but she's been in hockey all her life and probably is the smartest person around. She's currently an AGM but with her doctorate life and what not, not sure how much into management she really is.

The presumption is Shanny would be departing if Dubas were to become President. Shanny has been almost a decade, how long does he want to stay?
I had to look it up -- Shanahan has two more years left on his six-year contract that he re-signed. So if the team wants to get out from under it and go in a new direction, it's not like they are doing so fresh off him signing his extension.

With the president's role, I don't mind having some long-tenured at the helm. There's more to the job than just the on-ice product, and I think Shanny has done an admirable job to get the team, and franchise overall, to where it is today. Certainly much further along than prior to his arrival.

We'll see what he is made of when it comes to making a hard decision on Dubas, and whatever else transpires with the team. Don't think running it back fully is the way to go, so I'd like to see some direction from him at the top. Whether it is a new GM, coach, moving one or two core players, or a combination thereof.

that is the problem here. He creates this on-ice product and the new GM is needed to come in and blows up something that your own boss created. Who wants this job?

Takachuk had no NMC or NTC. The Flames could trade him to any team given he gave them the finger. FLA wanted to change the core, so they did a "sign and trade".
Limiting the teams you're willing to sign an extension with is as effective as a modified-NMC. If they traded Tkachuk to a team he wasn't going to sign with his value would crater.

I think the rumour was he had 5 teams he would re-up with, the rest might as well have been on a no trade list.

This job would be really attractive. If there was lot of intrerest when the team was terrible, there will sure be now as well
