I agree with you BUT JT seems to me is preparing the idea that he will be asked to waive the NMC if a good deal present itself.

Now will he ultimately say No, which he has every right to, but will he? As he understands the band won't be back together and if its not him, it is another guy. Going to be a lot of convincing but ultimately I just think the players got too much pride to stay in a place where you are unwanted.

I know Kadri did blocked a trade but thats had more to do with proving he wont get suspended which in itself is pride.
The Leafs are stuck with JT unfortunately. Hoping MM has played his last game as a Leaf!

With the Boston collapse to Florida, and with Florida barely sneaking into the playoffs this year after winning the President Trophy last year to be destroyed by Tampa, I think Dubas is finally convinced that regular season performers don't matter for squat...you need players that step up in the post season to win championships...keep possession at all cost also don't mean squat if you're going to give up backbreaking goals due to turnovers because you want to keep possession at all cost...his team building and game style philosophies have crashed and burned in front of him time and time again...he might also be lamenting why he didn't jump all over Tkachuk when he was available because from all evidence, Dubas has a pretty good relationship with the Flames.
Tkachuk wanted to go to Florida I believe

Reasonable takes. I think your Reilly take is spot on. His end of season was really telling when he said he didn’t want change in a very sad slow almost crying tone. Reilly has been on this team the longest, and likely has a pulse as to what is about to transpire
No sarcasm here: that post is a touch of melancholic truth. Rielly did seem like he had decided to go above and beyond to keep the band together. The balance of the core never took it to that level. They just don't seem to want it all that much. What is interesting about this situation is that there's not even a hint of anger/exasperation towards the teammates who didn't put their bodies on the line as Rielly did.

If Marner is traded then JT may want to leave

I don't want marner in the east trade him to the west

Those were the days

What was funny about the 1% Burke diehards was when they all got incrementally banned from this site and had to start their own little island of misfit toys Leafs forum. I think there's still 4 or 5 of them left there.
I'm trying to remember their user names. The only one that comes to mind is MooseOak.

Kadri had a limited NTC, so not really same situation. He thought that by blocking the trade Dubas/Shanny would just all together stop trying to trade him. But they ended up trading him to someone not on his no trade list.

JT has a full NMC, he ain’t getting traded and no contender is going to take him without serious retention.

HFBROADS or something like that?

I still love Burke, he cracks me up.

Yesterday's presser seemed so different than other Leafs ones we've seen in the past. Looked disorganized and not really planned at all along with a late start. It seemed to be hastily put together, almost as if they handed me the duties to organize it.

Then we saw Dubas come out and he spoke in a way like we've never seen him before. There is so much going on behind the scenes for sure with Shanahan not even present.

Was it only me or did the whole thing have a surreal feel to it?

I suspect that poster is still here. And I don't recall him/her defending Burke so much as JFJ.

Bell and Rogers - the bosses of these reporters - also own the Leafs. It's a closed club. You wanna work, you obey the corporate narrative. Unhealthy for journalism? Yeah.

I dunno... most folks are cruelly trapped in today's dystopian systems.

I heard someone call the connected system of internet/social media/apps a giant Skinner Box. It tells us what to think, what to feel, what is good, what is bad. The Luddites may have been right after all.

I just watched the end of season interviews and I must say they all sounded pretty apathetic, and Dubas needing to ask his wife if he can return was odd if not bizarre. Personally I hope his wife says no Kyle, you can’t return to the most prestigious GM job in hockey……..

I feel need to have an agreement in principle with Matthews by mid-June for a July 1 announcement. In other words, a month from now. And hopefully, if you can't get him signed, it gives you enough time to hammer out a trade by the draft weekend (June 28-29).

You can't let negotiations drag into late June, or you're playing with fire. The Leafs obviously know this.

The issue with a trade is noone is going to give us the farm, or what he is worth, unless the the team trading for him knows they can extend him.

All that said? He's the face of the franchise, and I do believe he wants to stay. But, it has to be a contract that makes sense for everyone.

Man asks wife and family after a hard long taxing year, how they would feel about him doing the same job again is bizarre? Yikes.

The MLSE board is finally willing to grant Dubas a contract extension after declining to do so last summer, but there’s a desire to wrap things up quickly. We’re talking as early as Tuesday or Wednesday, according to sources.

Talking to his wife is not the problem but What’s bizarre is the alleged timing of it. Do people really think that all of a sudden he is going to talk to his wife. Don’t you think they have had many long conversations about what may or may not happen.
To say that in a post season interview is strange. I’m guessing it was all designed to elicit a little sympathy from the multitude of fans that want his head on a pike.

Good lord. Taking a few days after a difficult year to discuss an offer and the future of your employment path with your significant other is not bizarre or strange.
Such weird conspiracy theories about such a normal thing.

talk about entitled, how does he expect to put food on the table for his family if his wife doesn’t approve of his job?

His wife will probably say we can’t and we won’t Kyle.

LA, Vancouver are good destinations with good pieces for trade.

Bab made them do that, and the forwards needed to come back to the zone to support the D and regroup. After he was gone, forwards did not bother to come back :laugh::laugh:.

Leafs seem unprepared for the FLA forecheck and neutral zone system. How many times did we see Leafs' wingers getting smashed by an FLA forechecker at the Leafs' blueline when he received the pass from a D?
Yeah I agree with you. Breakout low with the D and move as a unit up the ice is traditional but probably leads to more dump ins which Dubas doesn’t value for stats. Also forced the forwards to play an honest game and not cheat up the ice which of course we did.
That then leads to our D getting hammered because there’s less east options and we saw that many times in flordia series even tampa

Sounds like he is protecting himself when he needs to blow this up, saying its not his idea basically and whoa is me
They don’t need to “blow it up” — they need to reshape their group, and Dubas openly said it’s something that might need to happen, in times before he’s said stuff such as “I believe they’ll get it done” this time around there was none of that.

If he was protecting himself, he would have laid blame on everyone else, but instead took the blame cause he’s the one building the team. — I just think he’s a honest person and said what’s going on for him.
