the biggest WTF thing that I still cannot wrap my head around. The kind of player Shanny himself was allowed this team to play a certain way without results btw is the most confusing thing for me

Is there a public record of Dubas' annual salary/contract anywhere? I can't find any

He's gotta be paid at least a million / year if not more

That's always been a head scratcher...Shanahan would have pounded Bennett with his fist over and over again if he was playing for the Leafs today.

I think so far MLSE keeps all front office pay under wraps - we only heard about Babs a while ago because of how public the negotiations became. I don't think any of Keefe, Dubas' or Shannys (or any of the AGMs) money details are know .

Safe bet is Dubas is now a millionaire now though

They also recently announced that Sutter will be getting 4 million to just sit at home LOL; fired after winning jack adams too

man I gotta find a way to become NHL coach and then pull a Babcock. I wouldn't mind getting paid millions to sit at home and watch movies/sports all day :biglaugh:

Sounds like the stage is neatly set for “mutual parting of the ways”.

There’s no way neither side knows what is happening. Today’s presser feels very scripted and setting up next weeks presser.
Chris Johnston said on Overdrive that he has never seen an end of season presser be so chaotic...almost like nobody was in charge of it. And this is going back many years.

I think you may be right. Dubas will not be re-signed.... take time off to be with his young family and then pop up 3 weeks later in another town saying he loved the game too much and couldn't say no to the offer.

I don't know how "authentic" this link is but it gives some idea about Dubas' net wroth and salary

The validity of the link doesn't even matter. People should use common sense. He's been a GM for years he is obviously a multi-millionaire. Any Dubas fanboy who tries to tell us otherwise is just being irrational.

For him to try to gain sympathy from toronto fans who have gone through some of the toughest years of inflation ever is, and I'll repeat myself, embarrassing. Rookie PR move.

I'm sorry your family "struggled this year" because your contract wasn't extended. You're having a laugh Kyle.

One thing to note is this Leafs team got outplayed by Tampa. Could have easily lost that series. What would happen if we lost again? You could bet everyone would be gone. Then we got through it but have a real joke of a series vs Florida and won only 1 game. We play the same way every playoff series and lose the same way. I don't know how you bring Keefe back, guy is a joke... especially for him apologizing to Marner for his comment earlier in the year.

He's pretty confident with what he needs to do, which doesn't sound like someone on his way out without a contract extension.

I don' t see why he would be insulted by a new offer...any offer for Dubas would have gone through Shanahan and I don't see Dubas being lowballed.
Everything suggests he has to have received something from the Leafs but it might well be short term rather than lowball, hence the time needed to think it over. He already spent 1 year twisting.

I still don't see what they feel he has done to warrant any more chances. The year before Kyle took over they had 105 points and lost in 7 to the Stanley Cup champs. This year was not a whole lot different than all the others except they had 111pts and squeaked into the 2nd round just to get rolled over by the 17th overall club in 5 games.

I am not seeing a lot of growth here except about $30M in the salaries for their top 4 forwards. And they have no cap space and the Big Three are all about to head into NT years. Would love to be a fly on the wall when he explained how he was going to change things up and how long that transformation would take.

Jake Muzzin was a former Soo Greyhound...seems like Dubas is familiar with him...I think Dubas brought him in mainly for his championship breed and that the team needed better defense. He experimented with Petan, traded Marchment for Malgin, and also kept Andreas Johnsson much longer than he should have...he loved his small skilled forwards.
None of that changes the simple fact that Muzzin was the first big trade, and he was anything but soft. And you need skilled players too, nothing wrong with skill. Marchment did dick while he was here too, hardly anyone cared when we moved him.

IMO the core is rotten. Pretty much everyone agrees that the moves he made at the TDL were good, a ton of character, physicality and skill too and same result. Blame him for betting on the core if you want but if he would have moved someone like Marner early in his tenure, people would have said he's the dumbest GM ever. People kept saying that he gets no credit for anything the team achieves because he inherited this great core. Doesn't look that way anymore, not to me anyway.

The guy is about to cry. He f***ing cares. He really do.

So f*** you all, Dubas haters.
Dubas cares about Dubas full stop. This arrogant prick is done, whether the Leafs fire his ass or he runs away from the mess he’s made…….

Leafs or nowhere for Dubas.
I call bullshit, theres alway the Soo to crawl back to if Pittsburgh is beneath him………

Let me just say this. I'm 61 and the reason I've been so successful in life is because I'm a people person and can read people exceptionally well. Dubas is a man whose confidence in himself has been extremely shaken. He 100% believed in this core and that his methods would lead to ultimate success. They haven't and it has shaken him to his core. I honestly believe his spiel that he might walk away and talk a break for a year as his disappointment with the results of his leadership is very palpable. His young hubris has been broken and how he is ready to learn.... finally.

Our boy has done grown up. I have been labelled a Dubas "h8ter" but after watching that I am quite ambivalent as to whether he stays or goes, as before my opinion was 100% O U T with him.

Maybe he was promoted too soon, but I honestly think he gets it now.

But it might be too late.
Basically Dubas learned that Trust is Earned...not just given like he did with the young guns and their super duper contracts. He learned why other GM's would wait before committing big bucks. He did learn that stuff the hard way it seems.

Yes, he's a sharp cookie, but it also showed that he's a rookie learning on the job and had wasted prime years of the core. Dubas has been building super-soft teams until recently because he thought only skill should carry the day in the playoffs, and has been proven wrong time and time again. Many fans here have posted many, many times how soft those teams were, but he stuck to his experiments because he thought he knew better...well, he's learning now, but might be too little, too late for him.
I think a lot of it is the coaching. I really believe that the non confrontational attitude comes from the coach and possibly higher up. Notice that McCabe was crunching TB players and after the series Keefe mentions how he needed more from him offensively? What does McCabe do? he starts pinching more and hitting less and was way less effective in the 2nd series. It reeks from high on up the ladder and filters to players.

It's no wonder they didn't want Corry Perry...they would never want a prick playing on their team...

technically he ruined the best chance leafs have had in years to really win the cup
and
in the process demoralized a lot of fans

its a wasted opportunity IMO. Leafs could have been so much better IF ONLY

Consis failure will humble even the most arrogant among us……..

He couldn and he can’t………

I don't know man. I'd like you to meet some of my ex-bosses who found a way to blame others for their incompetence and failures but their arrogance meter remained high

Anyone think Dubas takes up another position with the team if they could get a person they really want to come here to be a GM? Tbh I don't mind Dubas or if he stayed here but at the same time I could see why they might want a change because there's a lot of GMs and coaches out there who would've been fired already for getting the same results we've gotten over the last 5-6 years.

Dubas's facial expressions kind of told he's upset. He's actually open to changing the core. He even used Florida as an example when he didn't have too.
If he wants to stay, he needs to be signed under the assurance he will change things up and replace Keefe.
This would be a acceptable response three years ago……

Demote Dubas to pro scout and hire that assistant GM from Carolina. Oh and fire Shanahan.

Less pressure on Dubas and his family. Check
Gets to stay in Toronto. Check.
Doesn't have to negotiate deals which he sucks at. Check.
Toronto gets a true nerd running the show. Check.
Not a fan of Dubas’ drafting record, so no thank you……
