The media especially towards him has been soft as well.

Unless his family is literally fighting with people on here he's either not cut out for a GM spot in any place that cares about hockey or he's just bullshiting for sympathy.

Yeah dude there's pressure to win sorry that's why this isn't NHL 23
The narrative that his family is under attack is from us. He said he wants to talk to his family before going further and it was hard on his family over the past year.
There is nothing to indicate that his family was getting harassed.
I think it is fair for him to talk to his family before making a decision. For all we know, MLSE might had just given him an offer this morning and that’s why it was a delay in the press conf.

Pretty sad if people are harrasing his family cuz of the Leafs. Is that the case or are we going down that road because of past player's families?
I got the sense it could be health related within the family

To be honest I blame MLSE for this. Shanahan had no business letting a young guy with no experience deal with all of this. He wasn't ready for it regardless and TBH it was bound to fail miserably. I am just shocked that people in the hockey world painted him as a wonder boy when he did nothing but sign deals for players drafted by his predecessor. The rest of his job was shifting deck chairs on the Toronto Titanic.

They both should have been fired at MTL. That was the reasonable thing to do, but they forced the fans to live through this nightmare of a PO team. Of course doing things towards his family is terrible, but is it not known that some people go overboard?

It's all senseless. We need to move on with life. Get a new GM, Pridham or whomever and lets get back to the business of hockey and hope, not Dubas drama.

Reading between the lines.

Dubas because of all his past failure has strategically put himself into a lame duck GM position this year on an expiring contract, having given no reason for ownership to extend him earlier. That means he can't be fired, or at least there is no need to officially fire him if the organization decides to move on and simply lets his deal expire July 1st unsigned, which in effect is the same end result.

However, Dubas can now pretend (based on his comments today) that its up to HIM to decide if his Leaf tenure can continue, and use this exit ramp now, and MLSE just let him fade into the night and keep his reputation and resume intact to not include being fired, should they want to move on without him. "We have both mutually agreed to move on in a new direction" ..

If Dubas had a contract beyond this season, then he wouldn't be giving us these sound bites today, and be telling US he has yet to talk to Shanny and ownership about his future for next year and it would be Shanny coming out and saying what the decision was coming from ownership down and not management up.

Now MLSE has bought themselves some time to make a decision behind closed doors and now perhaps Dubas future might be tied to other potential GM candidates to interview and maybe they come back to Dubas and extend him based on THEIR decision more than Dubas calling his own shots...

Dubas however as a pending RFA can decide then if he wants to return, but we haven't heard anythng publicly that Dubas is their man and they're working on an extension. Dubas made no reference of being in contract talks, and hopes to remain Leafs GM going forward but the opposite of leaving the door opening to his departure over stress and family reasons.

I saw someone post here that MLSE responded to something in the media that they were still paying babcock to sit at home (25 million dollars?); yea... thats a lot of money for someone to not work.

If I was on the MLSE board I;d be losing my shit but hey I am a cheap mofo LOL

One of my high school buds went into investment banking.

crazy hours, jsut had one day off, which he would spend in strip clubs (doing business don't ask me thats what he told me) basically still working.

he put in solid 5 to 10 years, made good money and is now chillaxing with a 9 to 5 job no mortgage, enough saved. But he worked his ass off like crazy. he burned out but he had an exit strategy
I know enough people who failed at being an Investment Banker, literally had heart failures due to stress or just succeed but with very questionable habits, one thing for certain, they all love it the moment they are no longer working at Investment Banks.

The good news, if Dubas returns he sounds like he isn’t standing pat necessarily, which is my pre-requisite for a return. No doubling down, running it back, he needs to shake it up and if he’s had this realization, I’m fine with him staying.
MLSE...learn on the job. LOL

We just let an intern throw away our AM years. Why is anyone fine with this perpetual failure still having a jo? Holy f***balls....

Not surprised Chris Johnston was the reporter with the question that made Dubas emotional, Johnston has been openly campaigning on radio/podcasts for Dubas the entire season to come back and seems to be a mouthpiece of Dubas. Not questioning Dubas' emotions but i suspect they had a "talk" about how it should be answered.

You got info on what his contract looks like? Damn, post it here

You think GMs are reading HFBoards???? Lmaooooooo
Lol how much do you think GM's of the Toronto Maple Leaf's make? Welcome to reality. I have zero sympathy for him and his millions and his complete lack of success.

His naked grasp at the 'family struggled this year' straw is embarassing.

So we have all this speculation that they made him an offer and he needs to talk to his wife tonight sounds like BS.
If they waited until the morning of the presser to make an offer, that makes no sense at all. As far as talking it over with his wife, come on, if he hasn’t had multiple conversations with his wife about all different scenarios already.
These are all things that would be handled long before this presser or after.
He was playing the sympathy card nothing else

If this press conference is any indication, he doesn't care anymore. The only person I believe he said he wouldn't trade while he is here was Nylander.

Frankly Nylander was the only that also showed up too. So I would like to keep him more.
I would like to keep Nylander (produces in the playoffs, fastest of the bunch, cheapest of the bunch) and you aren’t trading Matthews. JT isn’t getting you the impact return Florida got, or Dubas alluded to, so that really leaves one player.

This thread is a mess lol. I’m surprised he hasn’t had that discussion with his family yet so that part seems like a way to dodge the question. But I hope he sticks around even in a different role. I also see a division between him and Shanny……which is hard to analyze as I’m not sure what Shannys role was in this season.

I do hope Keefe is gone

I am still trying to wrap my head around the "division" between Shanny and Dubas. It really seems like a concocted story for media narratives.

Shanny handpicked Dubas. Shanny let Lou, Hunter and Babcock go.

It should be both Shanny and Dubas that gotta go. I have a hard time believing in this "division" story because if I was on the MLSE board and Shanny comes to me and says "don't extend Dubas because reasons..."; I'd say but you are the one who backed him; it is because of you I am paying Babcock 25 million dollars to sit at home.

I'd can Shanny before I canned Dubas LOL

Sounds like the stage is neatly set for “mutual parting of the ways”.

There’s no way neither side knows what is happening. Today’s presser feels very scripted and setting up next weeks presser.

Condition on Dubas returning:

New coach
One player from the core has to be traded.
Sort out goalie situation for once.
Defence needs work.
Bring in sand paper young guys willing to put it on the line.
You wont be happy with Sammy/Woll combo starting next year?

Our defensive zone coverage was awful has been for yrs
What breakout
Our breakout giveaway giveaway
One of our main downfalls

TB pressured us hard and we couldn't handle same with Florida

If it's the players then that is on dubas get rid of the players that won't listen .
Playing holl at the start of the game wow we got hemmed in everytime.
Scary part is I thought we played better (as a whole) the previous year in the loss to Tampa.
Not as well this year but got out of the first round. Getting beat quickly in the 2nd was concerning.
That leaves me wondering if the team will get bounced first round next year if it stays as is.

That sounds like he’s leaving.
Sounds like a man that doesn't know if he wants to continue to be the Leafs GM or spend time with his family. The plus side it's the Maple Leafs or bust.

My suggestion would be, move Shanahan to a different role, hire Dubas as president of the Maple Leafs and hire Pridham as the GM.

Let me just say this. I'm 61 and the reason I've been so successful in life is because I'm a people person and can read people exceptionally well. Dubas is a man whose confidence in himself has been extremely shaken. He 100% believed in this core and that his methods would lead to ultimate success. They haven't and it has shaken him to his core. I honestly believe his spiel that he might walk away and talk a break for a year as his disappointment with the results of his leadership is very palpable. His young hubris has been broken and how he is ready to learn.... finally.

Our boy has done grown up. I have been labelled a Dubas "h8ter" but after watching that I am quite ambivalent as to whether he stays or goes, as before my opinion was 100% O U T with him.

Maybe he was promoted too soon, but I honestly think he gets it now.

But it might be too late.

Matthews and Marner threw it away as much as much as you assume Dubas did. why not get mad at them too.
Because the GM leads the team. Same way a CEO takes shit for his talented sales team not producing. You're the boss. The buck ends with you.

That being said...you ca fire Marner out of a canon for all I care. I'd keep AM but he's gonna let the NMC kick in and ask for stupidity. Unfortuantely us Dubas haters predictions are almost complete. It's gonna get ugly.

He's also the one campaigning the hardest for Dubas being the president along with the SDPN who he works with

Hmm maybe everything on the table is the magic words he had to say to save his job.
Not true. He actually believes it. He doesn't need to save his job. It's pretty clear ownership wants him to stay, but it's his decision.
