Is my memory failing me? I thought we've discussed at length that Dubas made a verbal promise to the 3 young stars that they would remain Leafs as long as he was in charge.
Check out this site for starters. I can only imagine how many times him and his family have been chirped by Leaf fans and Leaf haters over the years. Of course, his bank account would soften the blow. Not sure what he means by "hard on the family", but if he is anything like me, I could easily take the hits, but involve my family and it would be a much different story.Really strange that Dubas can't even say he wants to be here because of how hard this year was on his family. No idea what they went through but it seems like it got to him
I remember when I was young and thought I knew everything. Then I hit a point where I realized just how little I actually know in reality.Seems like boomers dont really understand what caring for family means.
It's really that simple. Yet they dont understand somehow.
You're so special!
Please wear a helmet when your out cycling.
I don't recall anyone chirping Dubas' family. If they did that's f***ing low.Check out this site for starters. Our defensive zone coverage was awful has been for yrsAdding Knies, lol.
Switching the D around.
Moving Kerfoot up and down the line up, which resulted in OT winner.
He believed in the core group and Keefe. As long as that faith was intact the path forward was difficult in terms of day to day execution, but relatively risk free from a strategic/legacy sense. The group WILL come through, they WILL win, my faith WILL be vindicated.
Now, that faith being shaken is it a hit all by itself, but it prevents two more hurdles. The easy one to identify is potentially having to fire Keefe. Speaks for itself. But the unspoken one is that he now knows there's a good chance that he's going to join the pantheon of NHL (and Leaf) GM's that have traded a great player "too soon" as they go on to do great things on other teams. The decision, the return, all of it picked over for decades. He was supposed to be the one with the clear sighted vision and commitment that rode out the turbulence of Toronto and emerged on the other side. Now the hard stuff begins... if he stays.
My memory says he only promised that to Nylander though he's said other things along the way that implied he didn't want to ever trade the others either. Sounds like he's changed his tune now, we'll see.Is my memory failing me? Again with the boomer nonsense. Sounds like you might be the angriest, most irrational poster here right now. Do try to calm down, stress kills too.K boomer. Try not to throw away plastic, that shit kills the planet.
I doubt it, just theatrics at this pointThat sounds like he’s leaving.
This is a line that I see repeatedly constantly that I just cannot wrap my head around. The players didn't sign themselves. It's not like this year's playoffs were different than all the rest. That $40M core, (minus Nylander, for the most part) have always struggled to produce in the playoffs, particularly in the biggest games (Game 7, etc.). This has been a problem for literally years and years. And yet, Dubas is the one who stuck with said players, over and over and over.100% agree. With the TDL moves, he built a team that was good enough to win the Cup this year, especially after BOS, NYR, COL, etc...lost in the first round. The Core 4 went AWOL when it mattered, again.
I'm no Dubas fanboy, but this is on the players and the coach. Two goals in seven straight playoff games with $40 million spent on four forwards? Have some f***ing accountability.
I just can't think of anyone who would be an upgrade on Dubas right now.

Well, nobody said Dubas won’t trade TJ.McCabe and Schenn maybe, but the D he has now is way too slow and unskilled. Even TJ Brodie is regressing hard. Has he even hit the net once this playoffs or only shin pads?
McCabe is pretty solid, TJ was not though. There is zero evidence that the bolded were great additions, McCabe had some nice open ice hits but he was caught out of position (roving in the O zone) often in the 2nd round. Lafferty played like a replacement level player (no different than ZAR).

All the players said they want to be back.
Dubas didnt say he wants to be back.
Here's where I come in and over-analyze everything.
As far back as October we had Dubas on video freaking out. Remember in October "Jesus f***ING Christ. f*** ME!!!!" meme? In the playoffs we see him smashing a water bottle on the ground and another time where he's shouting at Tampa fans. There are numerous other examples I can't remember right now. He didn't show any of this behaviour years prior.
The stress clearly got to him and changed his personality a bit. Which in turn stressed out his family. I think putting so much faith in a group of 4 players and overpaying them so significantly created a situation where he mentally broke down as they endlessly disappointed him.
My guess is that Dubas wants an extension to try and finish what he started, but only if the price is right. If not, or he's not offered an extension, he'll take a season off to de-stress and chill out with his family.
I think if Dubas is willing to trade the core, say JT Miller for JT and if it works, that’s a great move and if it doesn’t, Dubas looks dumb but any GMs would look dumb if you trade a core piece for another core piece that didn’t pan out.100% agree. If you have to force someone to do something that everyone see. Doesn't that mean this person isn't the right man for the job ?My thoughts are Shanny will bring Dubas back but force him to fire Shkeefe.
Sounded more like he has an offer in hand and wants to talk to his wife about it.That sounds like he’s leaving.
Pretty much and I know for a fact sometimes fans do get annoying, ala James Reimer.Check out this site for starters. That's the one thing I've always been worried about tbh, so I am curious to see.My memory says he only promised that to Nylander though he's said other things along the way that implied he didn't want to ever trade the others either. Sounds like he's changed his tune now, we'll see.

I don't know, if you hear the rest of it seems like he's still pretty invested. Especially since he basically says that if he's not here he's not going anywhere else. That sounds like he’s leaving.
