The guy is about to cry. He f***ing cares. He really do.

So f*** you all, Dubas haters.

He got paid a million dollars for a job he wasn't qualified to recieve in the first place, seems to have had power struggles with a coach and president that didn't agree with him and ultimately wasn't really successful

You get fired in every job significantly quicker then he did with this

There is zero evidence that the bolded were great additions, McCabe had some nice open ice hits but he was caught out of position (roving in the O zone) often in the 2nd round. Lafferty played like a replacement level player (no different than ZAR).
Ekholm should have been the dman but getting McCabe at $2m is not bad. You get what you pay for.

Once. Pasta got 11.25m and scored 60 and 110 point. Willie is not even close. If these guys want to stay together they have to give a discount.
I dont want them to stay together...even if they all take discounts. I dont want more of the same for years to come cause thats what we will get. Time for a yoko to turn up and break up the band.

This thread is a mess lol. I’m surprised he hasn’t had that discussion with his family yet so that part seems like a way to dodge the question. But I hope he sticks around even in a different role. I also see a division between him and Shanny……which is hard to analyze as I’m not sure what Shannys role was in this season.

I do hope Keefe is gone

Sounds like Dubas was offered and extension today and want s to talk to his wife tonight before signing it.
Pretty much, there is change coming. It must be also taxing too, people get a free pass and criticize but it ain't easy sometimes as people make it seem. He also revealed a lot and that Florida comparison also makes me think there is massive changes coming.

11games this playoffs

MM 3-11. 14 points. +8
AM 5-6. 11 points. +3
WN 4-6. 10 points -4
JT 4-4. 8 points. -1

not by points... so just curious by what metric.

Defensive play?

Lowest hit (amount leafs player): nylander only 10 player in the entire NHL had worst number...
Lowest blocked shot
Hes the guy who had been on the ice for most goal against in playoff and he played probably the easiest matchup all playoff!!!!

Hes 10th by production/60 at even strenght behing matthews, marner, tavares, oreilly, knies, lafferty, kampf...

Overal Nylandet had been probably the worst of core but wait he scored 2 lucky goal so we should forget everything and claim he was good!!!
You guys are not wrong. It was not how the media in Toronto built up Nylander in this year's playoff.

Sounds like Dubas is sitting on a contract offer right now, mulling it over. He wouldn't be talking about everything being on the table if he wasn't still in charge and would still be in charge.

Why not? He still is in charge and said he wants to stay here so he'd answer any question in the sense that he's coming back.

I don't think he has an offer that he's mulling over. I think he's hoping to get an offer in the coming days but even that doesn't mean he stays if he's insulted by said offer.

Ekholm is ~18 months younger than Muzzin and signed for 3 more seasons @6.

He was definitely the better rental add when you look at this season. Not 3 times better though, and a lot more risk.

Well he did say he views Florida as a template that traded away core pieces and got better, and he's committed to making any move that helps the team. I don't know if he'll actually do anything but at least he's not shutting down the concept of making a real change

well he did commit bit piece of teh salary cap pie to 4 guys who let him down (Willy exempted IMO); it would be foolish for him to hold his end of the bargain when he got completely screwed by the same "core" pieces

At the end of the day there needs to be some accountability held somewhere .. and it’s not with the depth of the forwards, the blue line, or the goaltending this time around.

So at least one move - GM, coach, core - has to be made
I feel there will be changes. There was something in his presser about the offense not fetting it done by only acoring two goals a game. Something like qe need to find different ways to score made me think he's re-addressing the 4 forwards at $40M..Also the example of Florida moving core pieces to bring in a different core piece.

He believed in the core group and Keefe. As long as that faith was intact the path forward was difficult in terms of day to day execution, but relatively risk free from a strategic/legacy sense. The group WILL come through, they WILL win, my faith WILL be vindicated.

Now, that faith being shaken is it a hit all by itself, but it prevents two more hurdles. The easy one to identify is potentially having to fire Keefe. Speaks for itself. But the unspoken one is that he now knows there's a good chance that he's going to join the pantheon of NHL (and Leaf) GM's that have traded a great player "too soon" as they go on to do great things on other teams. The decision, the return, all of it picked over for decades. He was supposed to be the one with the clear sighted vision and commitment that rode out the turbulence of Toronto and emerged on the other side. Now the hard stuff begins... if he stays.

Thanks, I appreciate the link. I listened to it all it reaffirms my opinion of him which has always been that he's a sharp cookie. If it was up to me, I'd want him to stay on but only if he's extremely motivated to make big changes. I know he said he's open to it, but how open is the question. But everything else, I like what he said.
Same way any high pressure job is hard on a family I'd think. Long hours, stressed out, away a lot. That drips in to family life.
Yeah, that's as good a guess as any. Having listened to it now, that's what it sounds like, just the standard stuff that comes with the job. And being the GM in Toronto is tougher than most. Maybe his family is tired of it and would rather go some place else, we'll see I guess.

Lol no. McCabe has a significantly better contract, and ekholm was terrible against Vegas. The McCabe slander is weird when your basing it off a series where like 3 players looked good, McCabe was very good against tampa. McCabe had been our best defenceman since we got him. Unfortunately his partner Brodie was even worse in round 2.

Muzzins uncertainty made it difficult to get a higher calibre defensemen with term.

That is another thing... I am assuming he is done, but what if he is not?

I don't know if his injury is a time thing or he is done.

If you asked me in Xmas about Dubas returning. I will say ECF or bye bye. But after the TDL, I see Dubas is learning and understanding what it takes to win the Cup. ROR is the obvious big piece, but guys like Acciari, Lafferty, McCabe, and Schenn are all great additions. Not to mention having McCabe at 2mil for the next TWO seasons, something that a lot of people are overlooking.
100% agree. With the TDL moves, he built a team that was good enough to win the Cup this year, especially after BOS, NYR, COL, etc...lost in the first round. The Core 4 went AWOL when it mattered, again.

I'm no Dubas fanboy, but this is on the players and the coach. Two goals in seven straight playoff games with $40 million spent on four forwards? Have some f***ing accountability.

I just can't think of anyone who would be an upgrade on Dubas right now.

Bring him back. The guy f***ing cares.

He’s learned his lesson. Sounds willing to trade the core away.

This is on the PLAYERS.

everybody cares including the posters that called him out on his stupid gm moves that hurt this team's future.

now you have Matthews/Marner whose NMCs kick in July 1st; not a lot of picks in the cupboards; nothing to show except 1 win in round 2

Business decisions shouldn't be emotional they should be practical

The timing of production versus what is being quoted is very different. The timing of the goals was way different and would've been great if they brought it when it matters the most.

I mentioned it in around the league thread but Jason Tatum's performance in the NBA is a perfect example. Stunk it up at the beginning of the series but was back against the wall, time to step up, and he did, game 6 & overtook game 7. Different sport but similar to how Justin William would step up in NHL the last years. Being Clutch and needing to produce and thriving in those moments.
