I honestly think Shanny needs to get Mitch, Auston, and Willy in a room and tell them that if they want this thing to continue in some form the next contracts can't be about them maximizing the money they will make. Like if they are serious about not liking this feeling then all 3 of them should be ready to jump on a market comparable(or less) contract. Especially since they all got great raises coming off entry level. It is easy to say you have had enough of losing, time to actually show it. If they still want to break the market rate? Well this thing won't continue on.
All three will respond "Ya ya for sure Shanny...I love it here...."........Movement clauses kick in............Players new reaction: "What conversation?"

Marner is a hometown kid, who loves playing for his Leafs. I wonder if it's too much pressure for him though...... The history, the lack of success, him being from To..... He's one hell of a hockey player, offensively, defensively... one of the elite in the league really.... But, he just hasn't done it for us in the playoffs... (he isn't the only one though)

But we would be lacking in a puck distributor if he's moved...

1) Cutezy play against the habs Game 7 leads to goal against in the 2nd period habs take 1-0 lead, had other bullshit cutzy players where habs had fun on the PK
2) stupid plays against eh bolts Game 6 OT leads to a goal against, bolts force game 7, had other bullshit cutezy plays where bolts had fun on the PK
3) cutezy plays against the panthers leads to a goal against in game 2

these are jsut some of the examples. The amount of time he has given away puck while making "cute" and "fancy" plays instead of makking common sense hockey plays is amazing. not only did he not contribute offensively; his moronic plays ended up in the back of our net or us playing in the d-zone.

thats not pressure that stupidity. i mean grow the F up. he is repeating the same mistakes every frekain' year

It'll take 5-10 years to replace Matthews if you trade him/let him walk. Tavares is dangerously close to being converted into a LW as is, imagine him eating the hard minutes every night at the #1 Center? The team will end with Willy and Mitch making a combined 22-24 million without a top 6 center to play with in no time.

Mitch is just far more replaceable than Matthews. Matthews/Willy together and split Marner's money on a top 4 defenceman and a grittier forward at RW.
Seattle must be doing it with magic..the sky will not fall, all of Seattle's forwards are probably 40 mil

5.1 milGourde 31 5'9" 170 lbs C/LW
13 gp 12 prs
I watched him the other night never stops working hits and causes havoc

McCann there top C 5 mil

Fear mongering to say you can't replace marner

I think ROR is the one player that you can get a read on with his interview. Without specifically saying one thing r another, it appears clear to me that he doesn't have faith in this group. Nor does he want to return.

He was so clear in how happy he was to be a Maple Leaf, and the pride that came with that. It really looks at this point that he has no interest in continuing that. Which is incredibly alarming. What did he see in his short time as a Leaf that has lead him to saying he "hasn't put much thought' into UFA??

there is obviously room for me to have misinterpreted his demeanor and delivery. But at the end of the day, it didn't look promising. And if that is in fact the case, then that is a major problem. When a guy like ROR shows that level of apathy, it speaks volumes IMO.

I feel like its so clear we have a losing culture in that room
What did ROR do here to even care what he thinks? Did he add grit? Willy showed more….Did he fight? Holl did more. Did he crash the net? Reilly did more. He won faceoffs . Made no impact and actually made the team a lot slower.

He is another old player living off the past with a Canadian name that did yet again nothing for the leafs.

Will be asking for a retirement package and has numerous times said he loved it here.

We already have Tavares here that slows us down.

Hard pass signing ROR unless it’s for vet minimum and that won’t happen because he will go to highest bidder

If you were a betting man and all things stayed the same. Would you bet on the Oilers doing better next season or the Leafs? They fought for wins with a bad goalie. We kinda just outscored our problems and got a lot of luck.

Really if you think about it. If the Oil improve their D a bit and tending, they're a force. We need to work on D, work ethic, physicality and compete. Like, that's a lot to work on.
We got luck in the 1st round and zero luck in the 2nd round. I think you are minimizing the Oilers holes to make ours look bigger.

How many years did it take the Hawks to replace Kane & Towes?

100% this.

f*** off Marner. You've forgotten about game 3 already? Seriously? You played like shit, time for you to own it.

Yikes, what a load of crap. Why would players "turn on each other"? Is that supposed to be something we should applaud? Hey look at this team, they didn't turn on each other, isn't that awesome?

I know it's Mitch who always says dumb things but still, that's just really bad.

If I'm the GM I say to Mitch something like this:

So you really want to win here and make you dreams come true? If you want a chance to make that happen then you need to tell me right now that you'll sign for 9 million max term for your next deal. No talking to Paul first, you decide right now what you want. That will help us win in many ways, you'll be a hero in this town overnight, your endorsements will skyrocket and you will get a full NMC and be a Leaf for life. And because of those endorsements that you know will come and because we will structure the contract in the most advantageous way possible, you won't even lose that much and let's face it, you'll be filthy rich no matter much so you need decide how important is it really for you to win in Toronto. If you say no, then there's an excellent chance you'll be traded because while I don't doubt you want to win, we just can't keep going the way we're going and if we have to keep making you one of the highest paid players in the league in order to keep you, you're the logical guy to be moved, that's just the way it is.
Notice how every player mentioned everything but the complete playoff meltdown.

Hyperbole.

That's probably fair. I'm just saying I read here all the time how the Oilers "don't play defence" and on and on like that and while I admit I don't watch them that much, I doubt most of the people trashing them do either and saying "the Oilers don't play defence" is a lazy narrative.

I think we're a pretty good team defensively and without digging too deep, I'll just say that I took a quick peek at the numbers and over the course of the season, we allowed 36 less goals than they did, but our SV% was much better than theirs which according to my estimates, account for just over half of that difference so with equivalent goaltending, maybe we allow 15 goals less than they do over a season. I also watched them a fair bit in the playoffs and they weren't bad at all. They're not a defensive juggernaut by any means but I think they're better than people here give them credit for.

As long as Keefe is canned, that's all I care about.
Ekholm was a HUGE add for them and Nurse is strong in his zone. Ceci isnt even as bad as his reputation, but, the Oilers dont play a 'team defence' game, and cheat on offense, but, when you have McD, and Drais, its hard not to cheat, but, if they had a system like a Trotz system, they would be my favorite for the cup, but, they would need to get everyone to buy in on the defense first mentality, and that can sometimes be a hard sell ...now, i dont even know if anyone has even ever asked those guys to backcheck harder, and not cheat to offense, but, thats all they need.

ROR didn't do shit here

Did not impress or produce enough
I agree with you.

I think I am just in love in his past and what he brings leadership and stuff more than the actual product on the ice.

Acciari, Schenn and McCabe did a lot than him in the playoffs.

Keefe doing better than his game 5 post press conference. "This team has the talent to win the cup"...then its your fault that they didn't being you're the coach. idiot
