Chytil
  • Feels good; has been a nice couple of days practicing
  • Is 100% ready for the offseason
  • Was not happy after Dickinson hit him but wasn’t thinking he was going to be out for a month; missed the most important month for their team; harder to go through this watching his teammates battle while he was sitting at home; need to focus on what is in front of him
  • Cleared concussion protocol; was great for the mental aspect to go into the summer training at 100%
Hoglander
  • Had a rougher start but was refreshed after the New Year
  • Never want to see a friend, Pettersson, go through that; will be a big summer for him
Blueger
  • Tough to point to just one thing to change while last year, things clicked right away; this year, there was turmoil within the team, media stuff, injuries, and trades; weren’t consistent enough; need more maturity in their game; struggled playing with the lead
  • Were right at the top of the league on the PK; had great continuity; mentions Hronek being great at edge battles on the wall and use that to their advantage; Foote’s system is great
Joshua
  • Felt better down the stretch; disappointing season on his part; hard to feel good about his game; need to build off the end of the year
  • Will start training sooner due to the longer summer
  • Injuries are a part of the game so it was tough starting behind; played in enough games where that wasn’t an issue; his play just wasn’t good enough; not a reason or excuse for his play

Pettersson (Junior)
  • Learned a lot and was a great year for him
  • Would have been a good experience to play in the AHL playoffs
  • Doesn’t think he will play in the World Championships
Juulsen
  • Hoping to get healthy going into next season
  • Would really like to be back; last two years have been great for him
  • Played through his injury from mid-October on but got to a point where it needed to be dealt with; 3 more weeks of recovery
O’Connor
  • All are motivated heading into the summer
  • Super important to have a big summer; was happy to sign the extension; up to him to grow into the player the organization and he thinks he can become
Aman
  • Shoulder injury; won’t affect his summer training; feeling better

Boeser
  • Wishes they weren’t sitting here right now; need to close that book and move on
  • Was a rollercoaster of a year and were banged up with injuries; within all that noise, wished they squashed the noise earlier; let the noise creep into the room
  • Being a Canuck, being in the city, and all the relationships you make, and this place just started feeling like home; his girlfriend from here
  • If this is the end, he’s sure he’ll be back a lot and Vancouver will always be home to him
  • Last year was so fun; most fun he’s had in his career; will play a big part in his future decisions
Hughes
  • Focus on building a winning team
  • Were some challenging times but everyone has to be better; need guys that elevate their game; not about one guy but it’s 24 guys on a roster; everyone should be held accountable
  • A lot of unforeseen things happened this year and only had two guys play the full season; bunch of different things came together but the reality is they need to be better; every person needs to be better in the organization
  • Using the summer to get his body to play a full season, playoffs, and Olympics
  • Doesn’t think there’s a role he can play in training with Pettersson; every player needs to train the way they want to; is a big believer in him
Demko
  • Was a frustrating year, mentally and physically; came off his 2nd injury going in a good direction; excited to be healthy going into the summer
  • Don’t see himself as a different guy; knows he’s still capable of being a Vezina nominee; had no idea what was going on last summer
  • Has a team around him that builds his plan
  • Always wanted to be a Canuck and would like to sign an extension; will let his agent focus on contract talks
  • Lankinen deserved every dollar he got; kept us alive; is a great goalie partner; doesn’t change how he feels coming back here; really healthy relationship
Suter
  • Felt he could score 20 goals in the NHL
  • Wants to sign a contract earlier than August this time
  • Organization knows where they stand
Might be to the most damning comment made in the end of season availability. If the Canucks knew that Demko was having a rough summer rehabbing his injury and did not go out and get help until the last two weeks of the season that was terribly mismanaged. We could have started the season with a goaltending tandem of Silovs and Patera. Our back up goaltending was terrible and probably one of the main reasons we are not in a playoff spot.

It was a terrible summer. They were lucky Lankinen was there.

Them going into the season with the shit blueline they had ultimately cost them a playoff spot.

Pretty certain the doctors didn’t know either and it took all parties a long time to figure it out given no other goalie has had this injury before. Not a Canucks issue - from a medical perspective this stuff takes time to pin down, as hard as that is for fans to hear sometimes.

My problem is that the Canucks did not build in a contingency plan in case Demko was out long term. Demko even said he as such that he was having problems during the summer. Hoping Lankinen did sign a contract all summer is not good strategy. What would have happened if Lankinen signed with another team what were the Canucks plans? How was signing Desharnais and Heinen more of a priority than having insurance policy in net.

Teams are not allowed to engage the players like that in the offseason, the player has to do it proactively

How do you know there wasn't a contingency plan...?

Was there any confirmation as to whether Pettersson still had the knee injury during the season? Was kind of hoping this was the case as it could at least explain his play. Not really a big fan of the whole poor training in the off season caused him to suck six months later.

They were talking to Lankinen from August onwards as they monitored the Demko situation and realized it wasn't getting better quick enough. They ended up making the right call on getting Lankinen signed - don't see much of a point on arguing what if he signed elsewhere given he didn't. Signing him earlier likely would've cost more too, and they didn't have info re: Demko's readiness for training camp by that point.

Where they misplayed their hand re: goaltending was on Silovs, a mistake I think all of us would've made. They thought based on the playoffs he was ready for a backup role behind Demko, but he's struggled immensely since.

this was a weird* season. Canucks only played one game** while everyone else played 82

** against Dallas, and they won 6-5 in OT

iirc

* suck it "i" before "e" except after "c" nazis

Cracks me up that after avoiding the media all year, Hronek got 1 question, gave a really short, one sentence answer, and that was it.

Good to know Chytil is healthy. Hope everyone has a good summer - management included - and they all come back hungry next year.

It seems like a small group until you realize how many guys from Abbotsford were filling out the roster and are now back in the AHL.

Thanks @Vector for the summaries

Boeser’s comments that they needed to shut the noise down early and address it reflects poorly on our leadership, starting with Hughes.

The problem is that Miller and Petey were the alternate captains. As much as everyone respects Quinn, he's not going to be able to talk a veteran like Miller down and he obviously can't get Petey to up his game. Winning helps a lot of problems going away and like Petey said, he and Miller can respect each other as teammates (with our own added caveat that when they are both performing like stars).

I honestly don't know why Miller and Petey didn't get along. It's such an unusual thing.
