I do not see it personally but Elliotte Friedman speculates Greiss will be traded to The Sharks to Back up Jones! I am sure The Islanders would rather dump Halak but having a hard time finding any takers. Halak might get interest at the trade deadline to a playoff team for a draft pick or prospect.

Yeah because we need to waist resources and upgrade our backup goalie that has put up a 1.93 gaa and .931 save % in his first 4 games.......

I know it's a small sample size but I highly doubt the sharks are in the market for a goalie at this moment. If dell falters this could be an option come the deadline but as of now there is slim to no chance the sharks trade for a goalie with Dell playing as well as he is.

I could just as easily see the Isles try to extend Greiss and trade Halak.

wheres the link to the speculation ? I just visited his tweets and nothing there as of now

Greiss is starting tonight for isles - why would they risk injury if he's about to be dealt.

This is what Friedman wrote exactly.

15. Depending on what the Islanders decide to do with their goalies, does anyone else see Thomas Greiss being a playoff backup for Martin Jones? History there.

Obviously it's not Dell's numbers that would cause a Cup hopeful team like San Jose to acquire someone like Greiss. It's the fact that Greiss won a playoff round last year after taking over for the injured Halak. Having someone like Greiss behind Jones is a much safer security blanket than Dell (who isn't Matt Murray) should Jones get injured in playoff hockey. For something I would assume costs no more than the value of a 2nd round pick, it's worth the price to acquire a goaltender with (moderately successful) playoff experience.

Dell may not be matt murray but he's still earned his stay. And we don't have a 2nd Rd pick for the next 2 years, that would be a 2019 2nd. The sharks can't afford to waist assets on a position of strength, currently. If Dell falters its a different story but so far hes been everything we could ask for in a backup goalie. Also gotta factor that we are at the cap so most trades would have to include one of wingels, nieto, etc.

Troy Grosenick played well in a couple games a couple years back -

Yes.

He's not very good. Aaron Dell has shown to be a capable backup so far. I'm not sure why we'd need to trade for one right now.

On ice it would be stupid to trade Greiss so early and it shows how inept Snow is not getting rid of Halak, but Greiss makes 2M and Barclays Center might already reduce the expected payments to the team for being dead last. Snow might be forced to trade some salary. Sharks might get Greiss very cheap, maybe a 4th rd pick if Snow is desperate.

People need to stop taking Friedman's speculation and twisting it. I don't blame Friedman remotely - it's his 30 thoughts on stuff around the league, not 30 rumors - I blame silly fans for taking everything he says and turning it into a story. It's got to be frusturating for him too, because he clearly portrayed this is just his opinion, but then we get OP's like this.

I was JUST thinking this. He's innocently speculating, he's not reporting any rumors (at least not in his 30 thoughts column).

Greiss is by far and away the #1 goalie on the Islanders, if he is traded to the Sharks I am hoping the league is going to intervene and ban Snow from having to do with anything Islanders related anymore and reverse the trade

Greiss to San Jose makes sense only if you ignore a lot of things with regards to the Sharks. One, they don't have a lot of cap space. It's almost required to do dollar for dollar in a deal or save the Sharks cap space. Two, Dell is performing well thus far so there probably isn't much motivation to make such a deal right now.

I would think Nashville makes more sense as a potential trading partner for the Islanders than the Sharks.

So #1 goalies can't be traded? The league is supposed to intervene and reverse good faith trades?

Two of those 4 games were against the pop-gun Islanders. Just sayin.
