San Jose Sharks say no. They're trying to build a young team based around Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Musty, Bystedt, Mukhamadullin, Thrun, Chrona, and some other kids and picks that will turn into kids. Elias Pettersson will be slowing down in the next 4 to 8 years and retiring in the next 12-ish years. Most of the new young group in San Jose won't be slowing down from aging for the next decade. They won't be retiring for 15 to 20 years.
When you have elite players, you want them to be as young as possible so that your team can stay elite for as long as possible. There's no reason to trade Celebrini for a comparable player who is 7 or 8 years older.
