Obviously he is underperforming this season as everyone is on the Hurricanes, but were the expectations set on him too high being that he can possibly be a top 15 Center in the league eventually?

How do you guys think he ends up developing?

He's been fine. Carolina doesn't score. Aside from the Staal-Staal line they are dreadful offensively.

He hasn't even played center much. Doesn't need to.

Yes, and he'll be back in the next game. Even the commentators were confident in that. Seems like it was a maintenance type deal. He's still adjusting. Not surprised really.

The fact that he will likely be back in the lineup next game doesn't change the fact that the coaching staff felt it was necessary to scratch him for the previous game.

He's barely 20. He has improved his production since last year, if only by a little. He's 3rd on his team in scoring.

He's a bust.

I'd take him on my team right now. I think he has #1 center upside. Always liked Lindholm. And I don't know how people make such a big deal out of him being scratched. So many things happen on the way to a player reaching his full potential, no need to overreact. I mean, for an example, look at Ryan Johansen.

He's good, I think he can be a 1C, maybe not a star 1C

But something like a David Krejci I think

I could still see him ending up a bonafide 1c though

I swear, this generation of Hockey fans are so stat focused. They write off 20-21 year olds as busts and assume they will never get better.

Look at the Sedins. Players don't always make an impact in their 18-21 year old seasons.

Only on HF is a guy a bust for not lighting the world on fire on a horrendous team as a 20 year old.

I never once said he was a bust! I was referring to what you guys think his potential can be being that he is 3rd on the team in points is impressive considering how young he is. I'm more concerned with how do you think he ends up production wise in his priime.

Depends on how he develops. Could go two ways really, one being more two-way the other more offensive. He has great playmaking instincts and a sneaky, underrated wrist shot. Defensive awareness is there but he's been slotted more at wing than C. He'd probably be a bit more physical too if he played anywhere besides Raleigh. I probably see him hitting the mid 60s (points) a couple times while being a great overall player.

I'm confident that he will be a 1C in the future. He is a special talent, with determination and skill combined. I think the Canes know how to develop him. He is obviously behind Filip Forsberg at the moment when ranking Swedish prospects, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lindholm were to have a better career when it's all said and done

I think he would've been served better to have been in the AHL or just not in the NHL so he can be the goto guy and polish his skills. I still think he has #1 upside though but I'm think he needs to refine his game a bit.

The fact that he will likely be back in the lineup next game doesn't change the fact that the coaching staff felt it was necessary to scratch him for the previous game.

But there was no indication that he was scratched due to any kind of problem with his play. He had 3 points in the previous 5 games, skating with Victor Rask and Nathan Gerbe, on a team that only scored 13 goals in that timeframe. As far as I can tell, he was scratched because two RWs (Semin and Nestrasil) were dressed for that game after being healthy scratches for a long time, thus bumping Lindholm to make room. Now that he's back, he's on the top line with the Staals.

As far as his development, he's been okay this year. Not blowing anyone's mind, but solid. He has good hockey sense and looks like he'll be a top-line player when he's done developing. Mid-range 1C or high-end 2C seems reasonable as a projection.

hes still really young guys. my worry is the environment. the last thing he needs is to lose confidence. if I were the GM I would put him in the AHL, and let him work on his game there. once he dominates the league give him call ups.

bear in mind I've been watching Kenny Holland do this for years.

20pts in 48 games for a 20 year--people need to realize not all players walk in and are world killers

bolded the key part

Take a look at the Sedins--many of called them sisters till after the lock out season--then BOOOM they became world killers

I think he'll be pretty decent by the time he turns 26 and playing on the wing of McDavid or Eichel lol.

Initially when I saw this thread title I thought it said "Elias Lindholm statue." I thought to myself "that's a bit premature."

However, I think it's a little early to say that a Lindholm statue will never be in the cards. I was very impressed with him in his draft year, and have been impressed in each of the games we've played against the Canes. He's a heady player who plays the right way. One day he might just earn that statue.
