It doesn't imply that at all. It implies those are the top pieces the leafs have available for their top-4 d-man search. Nowhere does it suggest that Kap/Johnsson is a good starting point for a #1D. The post only implication is that Ekblad is too costly asset-wise for the Leafs.

You only see that because you've come into the thread with an agenda, which is plain from your posts.

The right way to say that is like you said. It would be too costly.

The way he said it implies differently because he said that’s what the leafs would offer for ekblad.

I’m just pointing out that no team would listen to that offer for a #1d.

It comes off like you might have an agenda, because the post that was quoted said nothing about Ekblad being too costly to acquire, it quite clearly states that Florida wouldn't want Marner because they have been told to reduce payroll and Marner makes $3+ more than Ekblad.

There are also several posts stating that Kap/AJ would be the pieces made available and the entire thread is Ekblad to Toronto. It's a typical post of send us the best player/missing piece for our team and we will trade you multiple pieces of much less importance and hope that the collection of pieces adds up to the value of the player we want.

The only D I genuinely want back next season is Ekblad, so no thanks. He's having a very good season and is the least of the Panthers problems.

I think Toronto should get their own #1 D rather than low-ball everyone else for theirs
You mean a number 1 RHD. Leafs have a guy a lot better than ekblad who has had a down year due to injury. Also have another guy who is around the same level (Muzzin though less valuable considering age)

We dont have a right side defender who is as good as ekblad though.

We wouldn't. Unless the other side is offering a massive overpayment, Ekblad is here to stay.

Barkov and Ekblad are the two guys we really shouldn't be moving, despite the fans' (understandable) overreaction to the latest mess.

Agreed, I feel like you could name a handful of problems with Florida, but those two wouldn't be on the list. Just build around those guys.

A core of Bob, Barkov, Ekblad, Huberdeau and Matheson is a nice point to grow from. Need a few hits in the draft to compliment it.

Is there some crazy NHL rule that states the Panthers can only cut salary by trading Ekblad? Are there no other players on the team that could be moved or not retained that would also accomplish this purpose? Of course there are, but that doesn't get Leafs fans what they want. A #1 D for pennies on the dollar.

lmao, lotsa ways to do that, 25 mil is going to be freed up by Dad, Hoffman and Haula in the off-season. Ek isn’t going anywhere, he’s been one of the brightest spots on a terrible D.

Damn ,really? All 3? That's a lot of talent leaving at one time, an entire NHL 2nd line.

That's your entire 2nd line just gone.

If that happens that's not something you should be happy about.

I mean sure you could acomplish that by losing your entire 2nd line to UFA

OR you could trade a D man to help offset those losses
What seems smarter to you?

Now Granted it doesn't NEED to be Ekblad but he is the guy that would bring back the most

Florida is a team that needs is marquee players.

They'll trade the likes of Stralman or Matheson before Ekblad.

Lmao, they’re not all going to be gone, just saying that there’s money available and will be other other trades...IF it’s true. We’ll see, Ek isn’t going anywhere though.
