What do people think he is going to get on his next contract? He is a UFA this summer

The announcers brought up his contract in todays game, one said $9 million AAV the other said $7.5 million AAV

He is on pace for a career year in a contract year
Always been an efficient Even Strength Goal scorer
But has left a lot to be desired in the playoffs

Was surprised he only averages about 15 minutes a game the past 3 seasons

Somewhere in the high 7s, maybe 8 seems reasonable for a UFA. Anything higher... I'd pass.

His injury history will scare many teams away.

But they'll also know he is a lot more valuable than your typical 60 pt winger. Ehlers is a line driver and a very efficient scorer who tilts the ice.

He'll get offers in the $8m - $9m range. It's risky but many teams will have the cap to burn.

Does he want out of Winnipeg?

With the season Winnipeg is having, will they keep him as their own 'rental' for the playoffs or will they want to get something for him at the deadline before he walks?

Man, it depends who's offering the contract

If the GM is like the poster in post #3 who only looks at points, then yeah

But if he knows what the f*** he's looking at in terms of little things that drive a line like zone exits/entries, etc...then it starts with an 8

As a Jets fan, I'm hoping 8M to 8.25M keeps him in the Peg

I would be careful not to overspend based on a career year, but even if he finds himself with 60-65 points at the end of the season, he's still going to get a raise.

Hes playing for a contract which would concern me as a GM where the ROI isnt there in a post new contract time

Jesper Bratt got just under $8 mil per while younger and having a bit more scoring success. With the cap going up maybe $8 mil per or a bit more is the correct contract for Ehlers? I'm sure he can get more in UFA but not likely with a top team.

They won't trade him. They are trying to win.

I never understand the logic of fans of a good team panicking to trade your own player because their contract is running out then turning around and wanting to pay to improve their team by paying for players whose contracts are running out.

I don't think it's so much that he wants out of Winnipeg, but more so wants to know what his usage will be moving forward and feeling valued by the team. Both Maurice and Bowness played him in the 15-16 minute range and only gave him PP2 minutes, when a lot of the time, he deserved a lot more.
With how the team is playing, I doubt they'd be looking to move him, we already need a 2C. Filling two top 6 positions is a big ask and also worked out poorly for us last year. Hoping he re-signs long term.

Ehlers is one of the best 5on5 scorers in the whole league in past 6 years. The reason that his point totals are "low" are that Maurice used Old man Wheeler instead. And dinosaur Bowness just didn't like him.

This is first year in his career that he have pp #1 time. Last year he had like seven pp points...

He will score +80 poikts despite his low toi. And team like Carolina will sign him 9x7 to play with Aho.

Keep him and hope to re-sign in the summer (Chevy is usually good at that)

One of the worst playoff performing top line players in the league

So much talent, speed and skill

But injuries + in ability to be a playoff impact player should worry teams giving him 8M-9M

Ehlers doesnt get pp1 time and havent gotten it ever in the playoffs. The entire team hasnt been getting it done in the post season, and often the second line has been bad put together in Winnipeg. Ehlers plays much better with other speedy players, speedy lines can do plenty damage and I really didnt like the fit last season, 2 slow players.

But if Ehlers want to put this notion to bed he has to have a killer pos season, which he can with the right mix.
