Please for the love of god, hang on to this player and be patient through rough patches. Kid does everything right. Keep helping him with his confidence and development and I really think we have a Nichushkin on our hands.
He's making 1m next season which is a steal, he'll be here next season at minimum.
These are exactly the type of players the Oilers should be buying on, adding Emberson in this as well and hopefully Philp, maybe Kapanen finds a home here. These are the type of players that teams like Colorado, Vegas, Tampa and Florida find routinely, pro scouts finding diamonds in the rough.

Still early days for Podz and Emberson but arrows are pointing up with these guys and at dirt cheap figures.

So the player picked 2 spots after Broblargh is acquired for a 4th rounder and this guy is awesome? Seems like he was ready for the chance to play for a great squad and be part of a championship caliber team.

Is he still playing regularly with Connor? How's he looked. Having a hard to time to staying up for games on Saturdays
He was never really playing regularly with McDavid. His main center for the last while has been Draisaitl. The three did have some time as a unit but in general he has been Leon's LW. (Podkolzin and McDavid have played 10 minutes together without Leon and 24 minutes with all three. He has 124 minutes with Leon without McDavid.) Personally I think he has played well in that role and more importantly Draisaitl does as well.

Podkolzin now with a higher Pts/game pace than his rookie year in Vancouver. His Rookie year was also his best year in the NHL…. Till now.

The arrows are righting on this prospect. And the Oilers will benefit at the expense of the Nucks.
Helps to play with Draisailt. :D

Seriously though I have been really pulling for this player once I saw his work ehtic.
Such a great story.

God damn I just love how the Oilers have continued to target players that just work their ass off. Reminds me of when we grabbed Hyman from Toronto.

Hard work pays off in the end. This guy has been one of our most consistent and effective forwards all season.

He played great last night, he was a big problem on the forecheck, played great defense and man, it's a 7-1 game, and he makes a painful block on a point shot.

This kid gets it and I'm glad he's an Oiler. They should re-sign him as soon as we get into the offseason, imo.
Looks like he’s an absolute pain in the ass to deal with in front of the net as well.

Bring Klim Kostin back next season as a free agent and let these two be the Russian bash brothers.

Another point that was brought up worth mentioning is that Leon Draisaitl must love playing with this guy. Like this is a guy who was pegged to be a top 6 player and if he didn't like him in that spot, he would have had him moved yesterday. Podkolzin knows his role, if Draisaitl is open, you give him the puck. You don't force it if he isn't. He's always going to the hard areas and opening up space for Draisaitl.

Unreal game from him last night, he's a tempo setter on the forecheck which I said would rub off on the other guys and it's holding true.

For anyone keeping tracking, he's officially on pace with Valeri Nichushkin at the same point in their comeback tours:

Nuke- 29 GP, 6-4-10
Podz- 29 GP, 3-7-10

Would be really nice if he turned into even half the player on a regular basis.

If he became half as effective as Nichushkin, that would be amazing.

I would like to give Vancouver a big thanks for handing us this player
The Oilers wouldn't have gone after him if Holloway had stayed in Edmonton so while I wish Holloway was still with the team, this isn't bad compensation. A very different player but a skill set that the Oilers were short on.

The key is that he brings a heavy game.
When you look at him off ice he is built like a pitbull. Low to the ground and very strong.

Also worth noting that NHL edge data has Podkolzin in the top 10 percentile when it comes to top skating speed and speed bursts.

Someone must be poisoning the water in Vancouver or something.

Resting-Asshole-Face Dick Talk-shit (Tocchet, for those that aren't able to parse my nonsense haha) probably had him too scared to make any plays. The coach's doghouse is a real and tangible thing. Part of why I don't mind taking flyers on reclamation projects with high pedigree. You never know. Wahlstrom could be another one (I don't think he's a player but might need a second opinion).
