It’s one year...even if he flops terribly it’s one year.

This reminds me of Shattenkirk last year. Take a one year deal on a team that could help boost the player and get him a longer term more lucrative one later.

Very smart of him to go to Edmonton. He can pad his stats offensively on the PP playing with McDavid and Draisaitl.

He knows he will not be relied upon for defensive duties, so if the Oilers give up a million goals per game, he won’t be blamed for it like he was blamed for a million goals against in Toronto.

People here need to realize how terrible our defense is at transition. As sad as it is, Barrie becomes the best offensive threat from the blue-line this team has had in years. Will be nice having a defenseman (along with Bear and Jones) who can make good lead passes.
Barrie can move the puck from the neutral zone to the ozone. He wont transition from the dzone, mainly because he often blows the zone entirely. He is a forward who plays defense. He aint an offesnsive dman.

He lead the Leafs 5 on 5 in points and ice time and brought their PP up to 6th and 2nd overall under keefe. Man, what does that say for the rest of your D if he is trash? The trash man helped prop up the rest after Babs got fired.

He will also be passing the puck to to Hart trophy players. That will help as well.
More likely he will be in front of said hart trophy players.

Puck movement is vital too; Barrie has very good zone exit pass and stretch pass metrics much better than a player like OEL actually.

Barrie scores a lot at 5 on 5 not just the PP.
Yikes. I must have missed a leaf game because I didnt see this at all.

Did Barrie steal your girl or something?

Give it a rest, you sound like you're a 12 yr old kid.
Why you so mad I’m calling him garbage? He was with Toronto. Sounds like you’re defending your wife or something

If he has another season like last year, he's not worth the contract. If he bounces back in a new environment (likely), this might become a steal.

That’s okay Leafs fan. We already knew about that before he went to Toronto.

Leafs didn’t. AVs heard from their fans they completely won the Barrie/Kadri deal. AVs added Kerfoot for their 3rd was just cruel.

Oilers did very well. Low cost 1 year risk. He will excel being the primary PP option. AVs fans are happy he found a home. Great guy and he’s exactly the player you need.

His situations in Colorado and Toronto weren’t exactly chopped liver in terms of playing with high level talent.
And he did brilliantly in Colorado. And he was back to his old self offensively when Toronto finally canned that dinosaur.

The Leafs need more guys like Larsson to be honest, Barrie was never a good fit there since Reilly already serves the same role.

The Oilers needed a guy like Barrie, they already have the Larsson type.

Defensively he blows! I mean he makes Brisebois look like a HoFamer.

But offensively he will get his points especially on the PP and on a team that don't know how to play defense even if their lives depended on it, it's a smart move for Barrie.

If he gets 50 points next season he gets the Krug contrat next offseason.

Hot take, if Barrie does well this year. He takes a slight raise at 4 million x 4 years.

Well, if he does as well as he planned, then it would likely be north of 6 AAV.

He just needs to prove that in Toronto, he was hampered by an inept organization and dinosaur of coaching style. His teammates didn't help the cause either, with so many prima Donna's on that roster to ever do much useful in the post season.

Rielly was hurt for a big chunk of the year...you didnt know that...did you?

He still played 47 games. Link it. You'll see a similar pattern as Barrie's.

Allowing chances against isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're creating more than you allow.

(Barrie's also looks a lot worse because of 2017/18. He's been significantly better in the last two seasons in regards to those metrics.)

It was revealed that he had been playing most of the year with an undisclosed injury befor breaking his foot.
