Unless Quinn or Jarvis fall to 14, I am good with this.

I dont think Russell will be 1.5M at.the draft. When do the bonuses get paid?

Surprised Ottawa fans are okay with this. The cost to move up is 2nd + maybe something nominal. something in that neighborhood. It's almost taking on Russell for free because his dump alone is second round value to me

I don't see Russell waiving either. Sooo moot.
Honestly would be not be interested in more playing time?? He would be a 5-6 dman in Ottawa vs a 6-7 guy who will see a lot of press box time in Edmonton. He'll have a better chance of earning a job in the league beyond next year if he has a regular role all season

Ottawa has 4 2nd round picks and 2 3rds so losing one of those is not that big of a deal. I fully expect them to trade up with that much draft capital.

Sure, give them the first and a second and move up. Don't take on Russell too. I'm not against moving up, I would expect it as well. I'm just saying that I Think this is bad value for Ottawa.

Ottawa is not going to come close to the cap. Russell is actually a better player than probably anyone they could sign for $1.5M. He's a guy who coaches love, as do his team mates. He can play both sides and is a competent bottom pairing veteran defenseman. With one year left on his deal Ottawa can flip him at the deadline for an asset since eating 50% of his contract will be cheap.

Ron Hainsey cost them $3.5M for one year in real dollars. Russell can provide very much the same sort of things for 40% the cost.

Despite how little cap space teams have this is not an ordinary year. Many teams may well be looking at ways to save actual dollars spent since revenues could be down substantially and escrow will likely not cover the deficit for a few years.

I think he can get playing time with a few other teams in the league, and not have to deal with a stingy owner clinging to a miserly budget. Ottawa isn't likely to sniff the playoffs for a while yet so I doubt that the Sens are attractive on the front either. Russell will have a few teams on his no trade list. I am betting Ottawa is one of them.

Easy yes from Ottawa perspective. At 14OA the Sens can get Amirov, Holloway, Mercer, Zary and maybe Askarov.
