That’s nice, you act like we haven’t seen this same story from Kapanen 100 times now. He’ll have a few good games and then disappear for long stretches. We are all aware of who he is by now.
That’s nice, but he’s just a stopgap while we’ve got some injuries, and he’s doing his job for us right now. It was a good claim.

Meh. The Leaf’s were aware of and sure of who Hyman was too. Different environments can change a player.
I’m not going to pretend like he will all of a sudden become a different player but I appreciate the fact he’s being a stop gap atm, that’s all that we needed in that department

Im not either. But the possibility exists.

Lmaoooo. Good luck.
Literally zero risk. And for what we needed he’s already covered the bet. Anything extra is just a bonus at this point.

He's limited by the fact he needs to play at top speed to be effective (even if he can in theory play up and down the lineup). But that actually fits well with the Oil, who have been looking for someone to push the pace and attack with speed.

He's been with McDavid, but I suspect he'll find a home on the 3rd line with Henrique once everyone's healthy.

I hope he does well i always thought he had a lot of potential. But he had 30 points in 40 games when the Pens first got him back from Toronto, then he just became useless. Thought that was Sullivan's fault but he wasn't good in St Louis either. Might be his last chance and what a chance it is next to Mcdavid.

Here we go again.

Kapanen still sucks.

No, he wasn't just misunderstood by the Leafs, Pens and Blues. He sucks. He will cool off and within a year you will want to waive him too.
Well, he's a 4th line forward on this roster when the healthy guys return so....big whoop if he doesn't work out. For now, while others are injured, he's doing an adequate job and was a free pickup so don't see the issue here.

Nobody is disagreeing with you though. WE KNOW this won’t last. WE KNOW his effort level will be inconsistent. We just needed someone to help us keep our head above water while we have two (three if you count Kane) top six forwards hurt, and he’s doing that for now. That’s all we needed from him.

When no team wants you, getting picked up by the team who has two top 5 players in the NHL, so you can go pad your stats and have you showcased for your next contract is the best thing to happen.
In my cartesian mind, "when no team wants you" and "getting picked up by the team who has two top 5 players in the NHL" do not belong in the same sentence... ;)

Lesser players have had a 3rd chance with McDavid and ended up prolonging thier careers. Kapanen actually has legit talent. Might be all he needed.

Oilers missing 3 of their top 6 wingers in Hyman, Kane, and Arvidsson to injuries. Kapanen's been a fine stopgap as a waiver claim= yeah well he sucks, you'll see oiler fans!!

9-game update: Kapanen has found a home in Edmonton's top six as a third wheel who does all the little stuff to support his linemates, rotating between Draisaitl and McDavid while continuing to make really smart plays that don't always show up on the score sheet. He scored a textbook goal last night where he just got open and let Leon do his thing. That's all we ever hoped for out of his skillset.

However, he's also been a huge addition to the PK which I didn't expect. Like look at these splits:

Before Kapanen- 16/43 (37%)
After Kapanen- Killed 16/19 (84%!!!)

Yes the group as a whole has come around after a historically bad start, but Kap's speed is such an asset and allows the coaching staff to run the same type of formation on PK2 as PK1. I fully expect him to bag a SHG at some point here, he's just so good at backing guys off.

All in all Kap has been well worth the claim, he could completely disappear after helping us through our recent run of injuries and this difficult stretch of playing Minnesota/Vegas/Florida/Boston and we wouldn't have any complaints. Sometimes you just get lucky on waivers and we seem to have here.

Has Kapanen been known before to block shots? Cause he blocked a ripper recently hobbling him. I was told he doesn't care about hockey though...

He's also sniped 2 posts too. Wicked shots. Production isn't reflective of his impact so far for the Oilers.
