Nuge and McDavid did and Draisaitl while he didn't at the time, his contract is now an absolute steal. Honestly, I really do think the market really screwed things up allowing Nurse to ask for much more than he was probably originally asking for. Holland was backed into a corner and really had no choice as he couldn't let him leave. Yes, it is a stupid amount of money but that's the market and it is what it is.

Nurse was worth 5 million last year and they almost doubled his cap hit over a full 8 years because his shooting percentage went nuts and he played a lot of minutes in a game during a series they got swept in.

If Oilers don't go on a deep run this season, McDavid has to demand a trade, he's pissing away his prime years with Edmonton's management, and doesn't look like its going to get any better in the near future. He needs to grow a pair and ask to be traded to competent team. Don't see the Oilers doing any better this year frankly, they still haven't addressed their most critical deficiency in goaltending. What a pity.
