Had high hopes relatively speaking early in the year since he looked like a jack of all trades who could play both sides in the 5-7 spot without too much noise. However he's been a nothing since then and is probably done as an NHL player.

My old dog was named Dermott. Rest in peace you sweet animal, my best friend forever.

As for Travis, he halfway figured out John Wooden's legendary quote of "be quick, but not in a hurry."

He was a very quick skater, but his decision making always seemed stunted and he coughed up the puck way too often. At least during his Toronto tenure. He never was able to live up to the hype

Some Leaf fans thought he was a bona-fide #3/4 D in the making...

Well of course we did. He was drafted in round 2, played great in the OHL, progressed just fine in the AHL where he helped win a championship, and was handling 17+ minutes a game in the NHL at 20/21 years old.

Why would any fan think that isn't a #3/4 in the making?

I remember when Dermott was included in every single Leaf’s trade. He was the Nick Robertson of his day.

he was nothing more than a warm body for the line up. He served his purpose in October.

He's not an NHL regular at this point. I had modest hopes of him being a serviceable bottom pairing D on the cheap. He's really a 7/8 D if at the NHL at this point if at all. Maybe he's claimed, but I doubt it. Every team has nothing pieces like Dermott. The fact he couldn't PK really pointed out how useless it is having him on the roster. Your bottom pairing D need to be guys you can rely on to play a role other than limited 5v5 mins. Ceci lead the team in PK TOI while Desharnais tied for 3rd with Ekholm as an example. That said it doesn't hurt to have cheap depth added to Bakers if he's not claimed.

The fact Dermott is already 27 blows my damn mind
The fact that I opened the Pokemon Go app on my phone today, and had to transfer some for space, and I have crappy Pokemon's from 2016, not only blows my mind but has me wondering WTF have I even done in the last 8 years?

And I rarely play this game.........

Time flies, and flies faster and faster the older you get. And that 4 year pandemic shit really messes up the time memory.

He's not a bad defenseman but he doesn't move the needle either. I would assume someone will take him, but who knows.
