No thanks. Avs need to clear out their mediocre d-men to open up spots for young guys, not add more of them. Plus Iggy's contract is up at the end of the year, Fayne's isn't.

id love to get rid of iginla as much as the next guy, but this is not an option. iggy will either stay in colorado or get traded at the deadline for a pick. no salary coming back (or more importantly years).

Oilers need Fayne to have someone who meets the requirements for expansion draft exposure.

I would also feel pretty dirty picking up Iginla, even if he was still good at hockey which he isn't.

I don't see how this helps Avs. Summer of 2017 Iginla's contract expires and Brad Stuarts buyout is off the books, freeing up $9M in cap space.

If Edmonton isn't retaining any salary I do this only because of the fact that it leaves us with more cap space for next season.

I'd be cool with sending Iggy down to the AHL. He can have a cup of coffee when we need another injury call-up.

Edm: Fayne +4th

Col: Iginla

Oilers can send down jesse to the ahl and let him develop
Id do it for a fourth. Iggy is still a player. Give him some pp time and 3rd line he is still solid. Plus i want an iginla edmonton jersey to troll my brother in law with.

Not a chance in hell. Iggy's salary is off the books this summer. If you want to take out Fayne and make it just a 4th then by all means have at 'er. Otherwise, no.

Iggy's not waiving his NMC for Edmonton

Iggy's definitely not waiving his NMC for the AHL

I wouldn't be so sure. He's from Edmonton, and the Oilers are looking good this year. He wouldn't waive right now, but at the deadline? I could see it (assuming Edmonton remains near the top 10 or so).

You know how many players end up retiring in Denver, or still owning homes there at least? A lot, lol.. Probably depends heavily on how entrenched his family is in their activities in Denver. He's spoken a lot about how he wanted his family to stay some place for a bit. So moving may not depend that heavily on his career continuing in hockey.

I'd love to send Iggy to Edmonton, but no contract is coming back that is not expiring this off-season, unless it's a younger player.

Why wouldn't Iggy waive for the Oilers? Yeah he played in Calgary forever but he's been with 3 different teams since, the nostalgia of him being recognized as a "Flame" is gone. If the Oilers are good and Iginla thinks they give him a chance to win a cup, he'll waive. He is, after all, from St. Albert.

In saying that, I don't really believe Iginla's main priority is winning a cup. In fact, I don't think it really bothers him if he retires not having won a cup.

I think you answered your own question. I remember reading from a few different Avs posters that he is on record as saying he isn't going to move during the school year, and disrupt his families' activities, etc. I think he wants to finally just kind of settle in instead of chase a cup.

He's more than happy collecting a pay cheque and keeping his family comfortable at this point in his career, which is why I don't think he'll waive but if he did, I could see Edmonton on the list if they were to be good by the deadline.

The time to move him was in the off-season. If he wasn't waiving then, he isn't waiving during the year.

The Avs started the season 3-2 in what might be the hardest 5 game stretch in any team's schedule this year. Maybe we shouldn't assume that they'll be sellers at the deadline.

And, sure, the Oilers are 6-1, but have only played 2 games against playoff teams last year. Might be a tad early to plan the parade.

Wouldn't mind Iginla, but at this point I'd rather let Pulju and Slepyshev continue to acclimatize to the NHL.

If you look at this in a lot term view, Eberle may not be in Edmonton for long. Getting his replacement up to speed would be a better idea vs. adding another short term option.
