So the Oilers essentially traded away Phil Broberg for 20 games and a round of playoff games from Trent Frederic.

That's a bold move Cotton.

Can't wait to see what the Oil gets for Holloway's 3rd round pick as he blossoms into a 25 goal scorer.

Imo Edmonton needs guys like Frederic, they just also need to move a couple of the guys they brought in/kept this summer. They need physicality for the playoffs, Arvidsson and Skinner weren't going to provide that for them. They actually need more than Frederic in that department, but also clearly need a goalie or two and another defender.

Hope they don't get it. lol

WTF are people talking about. The Oilers have one of the weakest sets of bottom 9 wingers and bottom six players in general. Yes they need forward help, desperately.

The issue is that Frederic is somewhat of a marginal upgrade depending on his level of play (much better before this year). They're trading a large proportion of their futures (2nd + 4th + Wanner leaves little left) on the hope that he'll bounce back.

Huge overpay!.

1. They probably should have just kept Holloway instead of using the assets from the Holloway debacle to downgrde to Fredric.

They apparently asked and at the trade deadline you're not allowed to use a time machine to last summer.

Interesting that we didn’t retain, which could mean Sweeney is leaving room for something bigger, or retaining as a broker himself in another deal. Would’ve wished we got Lachance and retained ourselves, but oh well.

By the way, Beecher led the stretch this morning at practice…
Pretty sure that BOS retained if reports of EDM getting him with 75% retention are correct

A 2nd and a 4th for Fredric is steep this season. Worth it last season. Hard to say if this will work out

So the Devils acquiring a late bloomer diamond in the rough power forward prospect who plays at BU as a captain for long time Devil Jay Pandolfo for the real dollar cost of $145000 or so at a point where presumably some young assets are going to be getting shipped ou
Top 5 Oilers prospect according to this site:

Using a retention slot we otherwise would not be doing anything with.

With the bonus that most of our fanbase will bitch and moan about this tidy bit of business. Love the move to get a future grinder for a pittance.
Stay far away from the Devils board with this much logic lmfao

Alas, we cannot worry about the past. Because as an oilers fan, it’s mostly gonna hurt :(

they will sign him

When guys like Kapanen and Zach Hyman are among teams highest hitters (both top 5) then you need a Frederic or E. Kane
Neither of those players are that physical anymore, and both will be coming off injuries. It’s a high risk low reward move

Max Jones is a dud but Frederic will help their playoff efforts for sure. Given what they have, it's about as best as they could hope for.

TF will barely drop the gloves unless absolutely forced

He is not an enforcer by no means

Glad to see him gone however wish him good luck

Take away the window dressing…Hauser and Wanner are decent prospects but long shots to amount to anything that substantial. Jones is a tweener body. A 4th in 2026 is whatever.

It’s basically a 2nd and Lachance (a legitimately good prospect who I can see in a depth role soon) for renting Frederic, with the surcharge being all the cap retainage to get him cheap enough to roster.

Tidy business by Jersey upgrading Hauser to Lachance for a tiny bit of short term cap retainage.

who is Shane Lachance?
NCAA prospect. Late pick, but he's tracked well. Really big, good skater for NCAA. Not sure if he will ever be an NHL'er, but he has upside. He's unsigned though, so I wonder if he was a toss in because he wasn't interested in signing with Edmonton. Either way, he's an okay prospect to have. I was excited for his future, and am not surprised that he was included in a trade this deadline. He's got the numbers and size that would make him interesting to NHL scouts.

I don't think we were looking to grab a guy to fight, but we need someone with a physical edge. Most are forwards are like 1-2 hits/60. It's just a better soft forward group that was looking for either some grit in the middle/bottom six

This team just drastically is lacking someone that will go out and spark the team when the goals aren't coming.
