Florida allowed 8 less goals this season. And Stolarz was on the shelf for two months when Bob played all season. So that makes me think it’s pretty much a wash on defensive side. Goal difference favours Leafs.
And Leafs talent up front is superior to that of Florida. So this series comes down to one question: would Leafs talent up front come through in playoffs. In Ottawa series they did and since Ottawa plays the same style as Florida Leafs fans could be optimistic that it would be repeated in round 2.

Did it matter for TB who had a superior offense to FLA?
No it didn't.

TB averaged just 2.4 GF/G.
Went 2 for 18 on the PP.

I believe that Florida has the best top 6 for the playoffs in the league. Its not even close. Just love the mix, skill, and PITA traits. Florida beats Toronto upfront, no doubt

Leafs defence (both the defenceman themselves and team defence) and goaltending has improved dramatically this year. Expecting a fantastic and close series. People are underestimating Toronto- when they are on their game, they are an excellent team under Berube

Leafs tend to play down to their opponent, as we saw in the Ottawa series. Expecting Florida will push them to perform to their abilities

Leafs won all games in first round then they scored 3 goals. And they allowed more than 2 goals only once (in OT, so past regulation as well).
That is something for Florida fans to think about.

They didn't win all games in 1st round, not sure what you mean for the bolded?

And I'm sorry but to compare OTT vs TB as an opponent seems kind of silly.
Florida beat a way more experienced and better all around team in 5 games, no OT games needed

Toronto had trouble and needed multiple OT wins to beat a lesser opponent.

I mean when Leafs scored 3 they won those games.
And to your other points. Yes, and that is why Florida is clearly favourites in the series.
However, Leafs did win division and they also have home ice advantage. It’s is a bit of proof that team is a bit different, improved year over year, and gradually climbed from wild card years ago to #1 in toughest division in hockey.
Are those improvements enough to beat as good team as Florida? That is what we will watch for starting tomorrow.

You’re so out of touch with the Panthers :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

I’ve said this before, but a worse leafs team beat a much better Tampa team in 2023 as well. Tampa has been getting dunked on for years in the Atlantic at this point

Elaborate.

Better on paper, maybe but Ottawa had been better on the ice. Tampa was extremely soft...

A a average team working hard and giving up everything they have in their tank >>> a elite team who wasn't just not ready at all to pay the price. A lot of goal Tampa allowed goal had been easily avoid just by working a little bit harder... and it started with 1st goal of this serie...Cernak just finishing his play with a check and the play is dead, unstead just try to skate with samoskevic who bought time and result bennett scored...

Exemple Ekblad goal gm 3 when 3 tampa foward was sleeping there at blue line and no one protected the front of the net... Honestly i just don't understand how it could even be possible with less than 5 min in a key game like this let a guy uncover in the most dangerous area on the ice...

Anyone thinking Tampa was a harder opponent didn't watch both serie for sure.

I’m thinking of Domi taking his time wandering across the Sens zone in OT before putting home the game winner.

You’re just not seeing it. Leafs beat Ottawa so Florida may as well concede.
Ottawa plays the same game as Florida apparently and the Leafs made Ottawa do what they wanted them to do which was bring 3/6 games to OT for some weird reason.

Ottawa has struggled offensively all season long though for stretches of games. So did the Leads lock down defensively or did they just get to see one of those stretches from Ottawa?
Something for Leafs fans to be worried about

Yeah that one was brutal, no doubt about it... but it's 1 goal

2nd goal new way to dend

3rd goal soft play by liljeberg behind the net was extremely soft and slow for his transition... It was just a gift

goal 4 for a team in PK who never had possession of the puck... just why you let your front of the net open like that

Like i said a lot of time, that TBL edition was closer to the 2019 edition than anything else... just did the 1st game and ekblad goal i had in mind, there 5 goal who could easily be avoid

Whats the over/under on Leafs players getting taken out of the series from dirty plays? What's the over/under of games suspended as a result of said dirty plays?

I think it will say a lot about the leafs if they can avoid a suspension in the first 2 games.

Leafs have historically over-corrected when they expect a physical series, and that showed a lot of immaturity, unpreparedness and nervousness.

(Kadri, Martin, bunting, etc)

If that doesn’t happen I think the panthers need to take notice and adjust because I think part of their strategy is probably fishing for retaliation.

I think Berube has this team better prepared than Keefe had them though

As a Leaf fan I am really excited to watch this series play out. Not because I think the Leafs will easily win the series. I see it more like the final verdict. We all know the history. Either they will finally take the next step and apply everything they have learnt in past defeat or they won’t.

We will know soon enough

All of the shenanigans in Round 1 stemmed from Hagel's hit on Barkov. If that hit does not happen, Chucky doesnt hit Geuntzel, and Ekblad doesnt take out Hagel. You want to call it dirty, or suspension worthy hockey, thats fine, but that is hockey. You come and knock out Barkov, the Panthers are going to retaliate the way they can and want to. Even listen to what Kypreos said about the situation, and how he had no sorrow for Hagel.

The Panthers are not going to come and attempt to sweep the leg on Matthews. They arent "fishing for retaliation." Neither team is going into the series hoping that they take a player out, so there would be no point to retaliate beyond some pushing and shoving. What the Panthers wll do is play Panthers hockey, which is a nonstop relentless forecheck, with 200 feet of physicality. They will push the Leafs buttons and face wash, push and punch when they have the chance, because its playoff hockey, and its part of intimidation. What Toronto does in those situations will also play a part in the series.
