It means there are millions more fans and much more passion. They are one of, if not the worst, franchise in Hockey Football and Baseball and yet the fans flock to watch them, cheer for them, buy merchandise, etc.

Regurgitated the same crap said by others already. None of what you said makes them more passionate :biglaugh: A larger fan base, sure, but saying that they are more passionate because there are more is so ignorant. Sad you cant see that.

Personally I think the roster the Leafs had in 2023 was better on paper. More depth and skill on the bottom-6, but your defense and goaltending is better this time around and the Panthers are also a much deeper, focused and more experienced team than when the Leafs faced them.

Should be a fun series.
On paper, and in reality, the Leafs have never come close to icing a contender and this year is the first time they’re not at least 6 positions short.

Going into the season the goal was to be competitive in round 2. They have an opportunity to have a very successful season if they can perform well enough to make it a long series.

The yr we had ROR was a good on paper roster, add 1 more top 4 D and that IMO would have been the best paper roster going into the playoffs that yr

Big fan base, you will get to experience every type of fan. This isn't unique to the Maple Leafs. It exists in every sport for pretty much every team. This is sports. I probably don't need to tell you how annoying Yankees fans can be.
I live in Toronto so I'm exposed to it more than most. I realize we experience every type of fan, especially with bigger fanbases.

But the point stands. Sometimes one bad apple DOES soil the bunch, and you guys have enough Toronto Mans and DudeBro's cheering for your team that it makes it literally impossible to root for your group in any capacity.

I really thought after winning a cup my disdain for the Leafs would fade but in reality the fans make it impossible not to root against them. Sorry?

The problem isn’t effort or showing up, it’s ability. Matthews and Marner are too slow and too weak to make the plays they make in the regular season. Berube realised this and has changed their rolls and their contribution has to be preventing goals and scoring on the PP.
If you’re expecting them to take charge of a series like McDavid, Drai, or MacKinnon does then you might be waiting a long time.
I don’t agree. Even under Keefe both these guys took a more defensive oriented role. That’s not the only reason for a drop in production, as I also think they could adapt a little bit more to a playoff style, but the ability is still there. They do not forget how to play hockey.

I don’t see why Matthews can’t play close to their level. He was a 69 goal scorer with almost Selke level defence, and he is a physical player when he wants to use his large frame. His game should adapt well to the playoffs. Part of the reason is Marner not playing well offensively, but they’re fortunate that they play together and if they both are able to turn it on then they can do way more damage than they’ve done so far.

Same shit, different poster. More does not make a fan base more passionate. Just more saying the same crap over and over.
of course it does. if your home arena gets taken over by opposing fans every game then you are not as passionate as that other team. it is what it is. I cant even fathom another fanbase taking over our arena. we dont let it happen. ever. in 100 years.

Your parade was also tiny and lacklustre.

You keep missing the other half of the equation. Millions more that have endured much more, for much longer, than any other fanbase in NA. Maybe the Browns are comparable.

How is the Florida fan base for part time fans?
I find that the Leafs fan base is prob 60% the size it seems in the playoffs, where the other 40% are casuals who barely know hockey.
In other words if you were to run into 50 cats fans in the wild what % would you say actually knows hockey?

Chicken and egg. There will always be a ton of Leafs haters regardless of what they do, so lots of leafs fans play it up anyway.

At the end of the day it’s all in good fun. Just a sport and while it’s fun going at it with other fans during a game or series, once it’s done, who really cares?

There isn't a universe Keefe is better than Berube. I mean, look at the maturity on the bench.

2023, Keefe and Dubas celebrated like he won a cup and they partied their asses off. Round 1 was the goal they did it.

compare that to Berube. Our bench gets a little too excited he is like.. wtf you doing

Fans under estimate the mental makeup of this group

Well, Matthews can’t skate when he’s healthy so when things tighten up his skill set is reduced. Not an effort thing, at all.

With his injuries he couldn’t even play in regular season games and he couldn’t compete against Amadio in round one. I expect Florida to take advantage of the situation.

Loofs in 5, but I think we'll see a couple of OT games, and it'll be more fun than a 4-1 series may otherwise look like.

^This is what I posted in the pre-Series thread for TOR/OTT.
This time, I think Florida takes it in 5 with little trouble.

I hear you. Candidly, I feel the same way about some of our fans too. They tend to be newer/younger fans that don't really understand hockey. The ones that live on the extremes (cup coming or sky falling), I get it, especially if you are in Toronto - of course! I've learned to divorce the team from the fans, and recognize there will always be bad apples everywhere. I just don't engage them. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a good series, will be a great test for our team. Cheers!

Again, same shit, different poster. Is a 500 pound Leafs homer more passionate than a 200 pound Panthers homer? No.

Is 10 Leafs homers more passionate than 5 Panthers homers? No.

There are just more. You guys keep saying the same crap over and over, and you are wrong. Numbers equate to an amount, not an emotion. You want to tell me your more passionate than me for my team, because yours is Leafs, and my team isnt? That is ignorant AF.

And were you at the parade? Where there was pretty much a tropical storm going on, and there were still 10s of thousands of fans there? And you know what, I dont care if the Leafs would have millions in the streets, instead of 10s of thousands the Panthers had, because we still won the Cup!

engagement plays a part IMO.
Over the yrs on here I've noticed that level headed posts get 1 maybe 2 replies but a hot take will get the OP engagement for hrs.

And that plays into numbers again. You will get more hot takes from Leafs fans because there are more of them. Doesnt make Panthers fan less passionate, or educated in the game as well, as you were referring to in a previous post.
