Can the Leafs win this ? Yes if all their best players have the series of their life

But the chances of that happening knowing these players is almost zero
If they play to their average (which is close to point per game), it's anyone's series. Below their average and the goalie has to steal.

Tampa was a solid hockey club and lost in five so.....

The leafs are better than Tampa and their season record shows they dominated them. 4-0

If you watch the video showing all the goals Florida scored against them the lightning had some pathetic displays of defense. Numerous goals scored with not a single Lightning player in sight while a Panther was alone in front. That will not happen against Toronto.

I’m not saying Toronto will win by any means. Just saying Florida is going to have a tougher time against the Leafs. Tanev alone is better than any defender Tampa has from a defensive standpoint.

The Leafs stars were a huge factor against the Lightning in round 1 two years ago as well and then faded against the Panthers in round 2. Our blueline is much better and Berube's style of play is more suited to playoff hockey, but we will need the core guys to find a way to contribute throughout the series to have any chance of pulling off an upset.

I posted elsewhere in the thread, the main difference is the mentality of the team. They were never winning that 2nd round because the goal was to win a round for them. They partied and celebrated like they won the cup, it was a huge mission accomplished for the org. Sad in hindsight the poor leadership under Dubas and Keefe.

The Leafs were pretty muted winning the first round. All business.

Yup. Not to mention there was a game the Lightning were winning with a few minutes to go and blew 2 goal lead. The series should have been 6 games at least.

This series is going the distance regardless. These are the two best teams in the league IMO. Same kind of series as Colorado and Dallas for quality. I think the winner takes the conference.

I like this Leafs team much more than in years past. Definitely playing better defensive, playoff style hockey - with a dependable goalie.

But, I still see the Cats taking this in 5 or 6. They’re just great at playoff hockey, and added Marchand, who is cooking on their 3rd line.

No hate against the Leafs. I just have to see their core guys match the intensity of FL before I can believe in them.

This right here is why I am most excited for this series. We are witnessing a narrative change before our eyes. Lots of guys were losers until they weren't. This is the Leafs time.

I know this is meant to be a chirp but I kind of like Matthews quirky fashion sense, and how he tries to be creative. At least it shows some personality outside of hockey. And TBH, I think guys should use bags/purses more often rather than sticking everything into your pockets, which just looks absolutely ridiculous, especially when you have to empty out your pockets to get that one thing and spills out bloody everywhere...

Sorry - recent personal gripe at my bf here...

Monday is enough time off for this series but why would the Hurricanes and Capitals start later than this one when both teams finished Round 1 sooner...

You're the second person to say this so I'll respond. I was mostly talking to the poster that said Tampa was a better team than Toronto. Maybe, maybe not but only one team won the division so, ./shrug
Since Tampa last made the finals, the Leafs have out performed them in both the regular season and playoffs over the course of these past 3 seasons, but people wont want to admit that.

It would make more sense to me to start Washington vs. Carolina on Monday and this series on Tuesday (in round 2 the NHL usually doesn't like to have teams from the same conference play on the same night). However, I'd be willing to bet that the Leafs requested the Monday start, and the NHL said yes because they're the Leafs. :P

I agree that the series flipped makes more sense.

Tues/Thurs/Sat makes more sense for the Leafs.

Sens fans actually ripping on Matthews and saying he’s not a top 10 player lol.

Hes been hurt since last years playoffs.

This was Matthews at 60% and he still owned his minutes, played in every situation and put up 7 points in 6 games.

I give him a lot of credit, he was able to keep Shane Pinto and Michael Amadio off the scoresheet (although they generated more scoring chances for than his line did), and he was even able to score one 5v5 goal in the six games!

That’s a big performance for Auston Matthews.

The thing that concerns me going into this round is that he’ll be playing against much better players…
