Series Talk: ECSF: (A1)Toronto Maple Leafs vs (A3)Florida Panthers - (FLA leads 3-2) Part 2

Barkov on the ice for 2 goals for and 4 against 5v5 (against all players) this series but he’s crushing it defensively. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
I was under the impression that Florida usually try to play Luostarinen Lundell and Marchand
against Matthews line

Counting raw shot totals tell you nothing. What are the quality? So little is told by raw corsi it is a useless stat
"What is the quality?"...This also applies to points when you're using to them (10 in 10) to argue Matthews is contributing as expected.

He's got what, 3 points vs FLA? 1 primary assist was deflecting a Marner shot attempt that went high to hit the crossbar, then down to hit the post, and then luckily bounced right into the slot where Kries is waiting.

Then he's got a secondary on Reilly's goal which was a shot that that Bob actually saved but blockered it right into a Panther knee which bounced in for an own goal.

He's got another secondary (I think vs the Sens) there he's just the guy who passes out to point who then rings it around to the opposite side point (Marner, I think,) who scores.

There's more of these types of assists found in those 10 points. Sure they're legit assists in the way they count, but it's foolish to pretend they represent some sort of great (let alone elite-level) playmaking, if that's what being measured.

So watch the replays of the 8 assists in those 10 points. How many are evidence of quality playmaking and how many were just collected off lucky bounces, fortuitous deflections, and own goals any plug would collect passing it to a guy who passed to the guy who took a shot Bob that saved but in doing so steered it into his own teammates knee?

If the Leafs can’t keep up and get blown out again tonight, how will the crowd react to Marner? Is knowing that this could be his last home game in Toronto the desperation he needs to perform in a big game?

The only time Marner gets booed in Toronto is if he signs with another team in the off season lol it isn't happening in the playoffs. Matthews is arguably under my scrutiny these playoffs anyways.

Some might burn their Marner jersey like those who have already, but most of them won’t.

Why would they boo him for that?

Because that is what fans typically do when a player leaves in free agency. Don't see why it would be any different with him.
I guess I hadn’t noticed that
Just seems hypocritical to boo the guy for leaving when he’s leaving because of the toxicity thrown his way by some ‘fans’.

Anyway, here’s to a big win tonight

Yeah I am not saying it is right or wrong...but if he leaves in free agency he will without a doubt get booed on his return lol the idea that he would get booed tonight is ridiculous though.

I believe Maurice is comfortable with either the Lundell or Barkov line against the Matthews line, because there are 2 elite defenders on each line.

In both home games it was the Lundell line that Maurice definitely tried to get on the ice when the Matthews line was called out for a face off.

During the eb and flow of the game, not sure if Paul was that keen on getting that line out there if the Leafs first line jumped over the bench.

I do agree that either line is a matchup Maurice is fine with. If the lines stay the same Verhaeghe is now on line 2, but IIRC he was on line 1 for both game 1 & 2.
Removes the one defensive liability on the 1st line if Berube wants Matthews on Barkov again.

Bob will poop the bed and this series will go game seven. Then it's a coin flip, but knowing the Leafs history of game 7's they'll probably find a way to lose.

Agreed that Bob will be crappy tonight, as that seems to be his tendency in these types of games (like the Edmonton series last year), and then it's a coin flip for game 6.

You did reply to a comment but you also introduced a new point or a fresh idea. This then created a new discussion,
I see you just joined, yes that how the forums work, basically said in comment, both sides are doing it.
