Hearing Bryan Hayes talk about Marner is hilarious

“There is something that happens to Marner once you reach games 5,6 & 7. He tries some of the dumbest all-star game shinny style hockey plays I have ever seen. Tonight it was a spin-o-rama backhand that was easily picked off they scored 3 seconds later. In past playoff years he’s tried Harlem globetrotter passes that he shot over the glass and he got a penalty and they scored on the PP.”

well will be interesting to see what unfolds in gm6, i heard though that
Matthews was doublebooked, had a photo shoot for a commercial
and was talking with his agent, he wasnt sure what was most important
for his image, play gm6 or the ad.

anyway, it could be 7-0 cats 2-2 or 3-4, the only thing i cant see coming
is a commanding Leaf win
Michael Kors????

If we do not see Matthews & Marner separated in Game 6, It will prove just how much of a coward/clown Berube is.
They should also be demoted to PP2, but I doubt Berube has the balls to do something like that.
You think demoted Matthews/Marner to PP2 increases the Leafs chances of winning ?

Steve Dangle went nuclear during his stream last night, showing his live reaction to that goal in particular.

Not for nothing, but you look at the Panthers support the puck carrier vs the leafs sprinting out of the zone.

Matthews can’t even be bothered to turn his head.

Image 1: If Marner bumps it to 34 right away its a clear as day 3-on-2, but he fumbled it initially forcing him to turn. He then decides to throw it away anyways.
Image 2: The puck is already passed 34 in that picture, which is where he's looking.

The reason the Leafs had some success in the first couple games was well-executed breakouts beating an aggressive forecheck. If you get by the aggression you cause odd man rushes since they commit men up ice. That's the goal of "sprinting out of the zone" but as seen over and over in game 4-5, if the Leafs don't move the puck quick enough or effectively enough, they get hemmed and bombarded (for which this is a perfect example).

Got to hand it to the Leafs - they know how to get everyone believing despite never pulling through.

Some day though.
Some of us aren't going to be invested anymore. Just wasted 10 years and the whole thing was inevitable..a disaster. Not just now, dismantling it with no picks. I doubt they trade Mathews while injured after that season.

You're right these losers are going to find it deep within them at this point of their careers when they have never shown that ability for a second. Why should anyone believe in them. I can take losses, I can't take back to back complete no shows.

Matthews and Marner are exactly what every has said they are. Not sure what else there is to say. Yeet them both, they can go win cups on teams they are not the main piece of if they can even manage that.
The team hasn't lost the series yet.

Marner deserves heat on this goal, but the emboldened is patently false.

Boqvist has Marner angled off here- bumping it to Matthews isn't an option.

Marner curls and pops the puck out to Matthews after creating the lane. I've circled it for you. You can see Matthews looking over his right shoulder at it.

Puck is still coming, Matthews is still looking with his toes pointing North:

Rather than going heel-to-heel, or slowing down or stopping, Matthews decides he's going to whip his head around to the left shoulder and hope to catch the pass on his backhand:

The rest is history.

Marner got the puck past the forecheck and into an area where Matthews should have been able to pick it up.

Flyers fan here. I'm sorry for the Leafs Fans who thought Laughton could be any kind of upgrade. Unfortunately I expected him to be the invisible guy no one ever notices.
I couldn't watch a game so far, is he as worse as you could suppose watching the highlights and stats?

My man, I'm gonna summarize my thoughts really quickly: There are a boatload of justifiable criticisms to throw at 16 and 34, but making things up like "Can't even be bother to turn his head" is stupid.

You sent two different screenshots, one where the puck is behind him and he's clearly looking at the puck (this new post), and the first where he's clearly looking forward.

It was a sh*t play in a game full of sh*t plays. There's no need for hyperbolize literal crap.

Yes? You think trying the same thing over and over and over again is going to work? The idea that "they have to score eventually!" is just pure copium at this point. We need to stir things up, or game 6 will be over before the puck drops.

I know that there are nuances with language here, but the implication with "can't even be bothered to turn his head" was that he ought to have turned his body or opened his hips to where the pass was coming from rather than doing what he did. The kids I coach don't really like stops and starts either, but there's a lot less on the line with them.

Since you had dismissed the initial post with the comment that he was looking at the puck which was already past him, I thought I'd go ahead and point out that it hadn't.

Maybe you're already on the crucify Marner bandwagon, though. :dunno:
