Wouldn’t say Laughton is the biggest waste of even this deadline when he wasn’t even a rental.

Colorado traded a 1st for Nelson this year and they’re out in the first round.

Tampa traded two 1st’s and a 2nd rounder for Bjorkstrand and Gourde and they won 1 playoff game.

Bjorkstrand is not a rental though. And both were injured. Bjorkstrand had to go to the emergency room at 2 am a week before the playoffs for compartment syndrome or something. Gourde broke his hand game 1. Both played better than Laughton when they were healthy. False equivalency.

The Nelson trade was horrible though. Definitely worse than the Laughton trade.

He hasn’t been invisible out there. He nearly tied the game last game when the Leafs were down 1. Beat Bob and put it off the post.



The puck hasn’t been going in for him but he’s generated a bunch of chances, which is about as much as you can hope for from him. He’s not a superstar player.

If I was Toronto management, I would have changed my mind about Matthews being captain and given the captaincy back to Tavares once I saw Matthews show up to the press conference announcing him as captain wearing a Hanes undershirt and running shoes.

Bjorkstrand didn’t have his cap retained, Laughton did.

It cost Tampa over double what the Leafs paid.

If you measure the impact while ignoring the cost, sure. If you measure the impact and result with the cost, the Tampa trade was worse.

He also referenced the worst trade in the last decade as if the Jeannot trade didn’t happen recently by Tampa as well.

People giving Matthews a hard time but he's been dealing with injury the whole season. He's probably not even at 70%. Yet he has as many points as Barkoff this series who is completely healthy and registered an impressive 0 points in a 6 goal game. (More points than him the entire postseason also)

If Matthews was healthy this series could very well be 3-2 in leafs favour and that's just one factor. Leafs have been at a disadvantage since game 1 yet have fought admirably. Can't wait to see the Panthers face off against a completely healthy juggernaut in Dallas or Edmonton.
