There’s discussions going on in the Leaf forum that I’ve been following during the playoffs, and it seems like most people wants to pay Marner 14 mil, while blaming Matthews for Marner’s troubles. What do you FLA fans think of all this?

I doubt most people want to pay Marner 14M a lot are against paying him 13M

Not sure why there's all these posts fingering Marner for the leafs woes. Yup, he had some dumb plays.
He fired a spinaramma pass to Matthews who was daydreaming near center-ice not picking up it up which resulted in a goal.

Matthews on the other hand has done dick all whole series. Zero goals!
What the hell was he doing on the first Panthers goal? I thought he was Joe Selke?!
He passed it directly to a FLA player.
But shhhhh....it was likely Marners fault as well.

When Matthews is on the ice with Barkov the Leafs are outscoring them 4-1. Barkov can keep winning the expected results battle and losing the actual results battle.



Barkov on the ice for 2 goals for and 4 against 5v5 (against all players) this series but he’s crushing it defensively. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

That “Elite Defensive play” of Matthews was sure on display tonight

On a side note, trading a 1st for Laughton may be one of the biggest wastes of 1st round picks in a decade

Marner gets picked on the most when the core 4 disappear because he's the one who puckhandles the most trying to deke or do slick passes. So when he doesnt do much or causes a turnover, people notice and might say something like.... Marner's shitty pass screwed up the game.

And to be fair that does happen. He'll give up the puck, other team scores GWG. And people will remember the last play. So since he's a puckhandler, people remember.

For guys like Matthews, Nylander and slo-mo JT, they arent brought up as much because they are invisible. Fly off the radar.

I wouldn't even pay him that. Some team will. But Zito wouldn't. We have our captain Barkov making 10M per, and everyone falls in line behind him. He's done a brilliant job of constructing a streamlined and honest payroll structure.

Wouldn’t say Laughton is the biggest waste of even this deadline when he wasn’t even a rental.

Colorado traded a 1st for Nelson this year and they’re out in the first round.

Tampa traded two 1st’s and a 2nd rounder for Bjorkstrand and Gourde and they won 1 playoff game.

Looks like a reverse sweep is about to happen. Losers since 1967 is the new team motto for the Leafs.

Seems like the Leafs only wanted to battle for Stolarz in net, that injury was the turning point for this series. Yes, Woll has been decent….just seems like a different team in front of him.

I got to give it to Florida for always tweaking the roster even when they lost some players this past off-season to free agency like Montour and OEL. Panthers fans enjoy the good times while it lasts, it’s too far and in between. Just ask Chicago fans. Tampa Bay fans and LA Kings fans from the last decade. They all had great runs enjoy this team and cheer hard as they deserve it!

There is no silver lining for the Leafs after this round. They will lose Marner, which should be the case and Tavares should walk as well. Hopefully these two are not signed again.

No amount of tweaking will get the bad mojo from this franchise. How many eras does it take to figure it out? It’s hard being a Leafs fan, with a die hard fan base that cheers mediocrity and feeling like being in an abusive relationship with a franchise that takes fans for granted.

Don’t care if the Leafa win in 7 by some miracle. This team is not built for the playoffs and will lose eventually. Disappointing.

Yeah we Panthers fans know it won't last forever. It seems like the team knows it too. They are really pushing for another Cup .

Thinking it’s a lot about him resigning or not, and that he asks for Draisaitl-money. I also think that he’s been under scrutiny for a few years now, and people constantly see him disappear when the going gets hard

Please point to all the other great things he’s done? I’ll point to a guy who plays 13min a game with a single goal, 2a, and -3

And it’s not like the season stats for them are any better…

Leafs decided on the strategy of "give the best goal scorer on the team the C".

As an example of other playoff teams, Stars is Benn, Jets is Lowry, Panthers is Barkov, Wash is OV, NJ is Hirscher, Vegas is Stone, Oilers McD.

AM might be the best goal scorer, but no doubt the least tenacity and leadership compared to the others. And without looking at playoff stats, probably the worst performing one too.
