Maybe tonights booing will motivate them to play using their brains instead of their emotions.Cant play that way against FLA unless you are a bigger team.

Because that guy has more intensity in that crappy clothing commercial than he does anywhere in this postseason. He's never able to inspire. He doesn't seem to get that.. and that, that's why it's cringe. He thinks that little performance on the ice and subsequent interview will do what?

He thinks the team has to re-assess what kind of team they are and improve.
 
Amazing that no Leaf player says in the dressing room "Back to basics..get shots on net,go to the net,screen the goalie"FLA cant interfere with them trying to do it or it will be a penalty but the Leafs need to try harder at these things.SMH.

Toronto does not have that, and will never have that with Matthews leading them. Nylander is the same. He’s pathetic in his own end, and again, will refuse to make those non-goal scoring plays required to win. I won’t even speak about Marner because he’s useless in the playoffs, and we don’t know of his future.

Bottom line is, their top players are soft, and they are losers. Nylander is the only one who has shown any heart, but again, is too flawed of a player. I don’t see any of them changing at this point of their careers.

One other thing is you mentioned Chucky. That was an organization-changing trade, that doesn’t happen that often. It added a dimension and a character to the Panthers that was lacking. I believe the Leafs had that chance to make that deal, by moving Marner for Rantanen, but that was never able to go through.

Problem with the Leafs core players is as you said. They dont have the drive.

They are star players in the regular season racking up goals and wins, where half the teams in the league are junk. When playoffs come, even the worst team making it is half decent.

When you got guys like 50 pt Bennett running amok like he's a hall of famer, it shows the Leafs cant counter because their core players arent that. It's hard to change anyone's personality. Not just in sports, but anyone. The Leafs just dont have what it takes to win in long tight checking playoff series.

Matthews is a cherry picker. Very similar to Dany Heatley back in the day. Racks up tons of goals WHEN he gets set up by Alfie, Spezza or gets rebounds to snap in. When that dries up when his linemate passer is neutralized and all those juicy rebounds disappear so does Matthews. And when Marner sinks, so does Matthews. And so did Heatley in the playoffs.

But guys like MacKinnon, Kucherov, OV, Draisaitl, McDavid etc... scores lots of goals too, In fact, AM scores more in the regular season, but those guys are dynamic and can zip around, deke and create their own chances to score even if their linemates suck. Matthews isnt that kind of guy taking a puck from his own end and trying to lead by example being aggressive and scoring. He'll coast along the boards waiting.

That's why when all the players I listed above have a bad game not getting any pts, AM will always look worse because he doesn't really create or do anything else.
