The problem is, our young kids are the only ones who look like playoff performers. Perhaps, if anything, we can take that from this. Laf, Kakko, Chytil & Miller are performers. Perhaps it's time to turn the team over to them.

It took 15 years for Hank to mentally break down. This team broke 2 goalies in less then a weak.

Hank didn’t mentally break down. I think that heart problem had a huge role in his decline. If you watch him in his last year he looked completely gassed by the end of period 1.

Our players do not play hungry. They are flat out getting outclassed in terms of WILLINGNESS to DO THE WORK. And frankly, for all their insane talent, guys like Bread, Mika, Strome and to a large degree Kreider will never have it. They won’t suddenly develop that at 30+. They’re talented losers. Amazingly talented. They can win when there are other winners on the team as well, but they aren’t winners. I’m not trying to be a downer. This isn’t over. I’m more talking about their personal archetype.

They just don’t have that Crosby, O’Reilly, Bergeron, etc. level of WANT IT that makes winners. If we had a single top guy to rally around that did have it, it would be fine to have supporting superstars who aren’t THAT type of player. But we don’t have that type of player. If Bread was just a “you know what, I’m going to take this game over so help me god” type of player or Zib was a “this puck is mine and I’m throwing my weight around, I’m hitting everything, I’m shooting everything” type of player, we would be fine. But since none of them are, the whole team falls flat with no one to follow.

Again, I’m not saying it’s over and I’m not checking out or getting negative. I think the top six just desperately needs a certain personality type more than it needs a certain position or talent. We lack true leadership. We need a win at all costs mentality who plays significant minutes and shows up more the higher the stakes get.
