Well that was a fun first game, wasn't it?

I'm sure the other higher seeds had a good time as well. Lets check out the scores in the East from last nigh- Oh, oh no.

Well, lets try to avoid that happening tonight. I'm really not sure what's worse, losing Game 1 in 3OT or having to sit through 2+ overtimes just to watch your team lose after they cut off alcohol sales in the 3rd period.

Anyway, onto Game 2. Looks to be Raanta vs Ullmark again. I wouldn't necessarily say either goalie had a particularly great 1st game, but Raanta simply made more key saves. Wasn't always pretty, but you know what?

So to recap, we won Game 1 5-1, pushed the season scoring total to 21-2 over 4 games and in a reprisal of the Regular Season matchups, showed that the Canes are not just capable of going toe to toe physically with the Bruins, but can actually start dictating play when they do. Which, lets be honest, is a huge difference from the last time these two teams met in the playoffs. Couple more games like that and this could be a quick little soiree. Oh, this is being cross posted to the main board and there are Bruins fans reading this, too?

Sorry, not sorry.

Anyway, Game is at 7, watch on Ballys or ESPN (or NESN if you're a B's fan not in Cary). That's enough out of me...

I have concerns about Raanta still, Our D needs to be on point. He seemed a little wild, and let a coupe skitter behind him that make me nervous, along with rebound action. I don't think he played poorly, but he did look nervous and a little on edge. I think some of what we got last game was luck. One goal going the other way could have shifted the momentum a lot in that game.

Bruins on the other hand, seemed to have trouble clearing the net in front of Ullmark. More of that. Alot of our chances were low percentage junk shots, but when we got a body in front of him, they had trouble moving it. When boston starts to lose they get frustrated and off their game. Keeping them frustrated and angry is important. I also don't think they can pace our speed well. We need to clean up our forecheck, and our zone entry was sometimes poor last game. Boston plays poorly from behind. It took us a while to get going last game. I hope we start on time because the second period is our worst.

We really need to go into Boston with a 2 game lead.

Yeah this game is 100% a must win, can't go into Boston with the series tied. Also I think 1 of games 3 or 4 will be a must win. I would not be very comfortable with this series sitting at 2-2 after 4. Series needs to be 3-1 or over on Sunday, can't let these guys hang around. Need to keep the pressure on and continue dominating like we did the last 4

This is probably the most important game of the series. Going to Boston 2-0 is very, very different than 1-1. As stated above, don't let them hang around.
I'd say getting off to a good start in game 1 was vital. Even going to Boston 1-1 I think they feel confident they can split games 3 and 4. Losing game 1 and potentially facing an 0-2 hole and wondering about goalie health and choices? Not good.

I will echo what I've said all along. This series hinges on our ability to keep finding the back of the net, and we just need goaltending to be good enough to keep us within striking range. Raanta did that in Game 1. Sure, he had a lot of help from our defense, but when you hire a goalie in Carolina you expect that goalie to get a shitload of help from the defense every night. Its why guys like Mrazek, Reimer, McIlhenny, and Ned have been good enough for us in the past, we have a good defense.

We scored 4 goals on Ullmark on Monday. A tip, which we utilize as one of our major plans of attack, a massively screened shot, a snipe off an odd man rush that had Ullmark reacting to the puck off a cross ice feed going over the royal road, and an absolute snipe with a guy who picked a corner. 4 shots that very few goalies would have stopped, even someone like Vasi. As long as we can keep doing that, I feel real good about this series.

Boston got some decent pressure to start Game 1, but lets also remember... We were playing our first game in 4 days, and for Staal, Svech, and Slavin, it was their first in 6. We were a bit rusty, and it took us a little time to kick it off. But once we did, we absolutely took over that game. Took us a little while to find the back of the net, but starting late in the 1st, we began to absolutely control the flow of the game, limiting Boston to low percentage perimeter shots.

Boston is going to come out with a push in this one, and we'll have to withstand it. But even if Boston scores early on us, I also trust that we will again look stronger as the game goes along and wouldn't be shocked if we see a late push and a big 3rd once again swing the game heavily in our favor. Its been a recurring theme against them all year.

I know people will hate on me after game 1, but I just don't trust Raanta. I want Andersen back, but I don't think that is happening this series. It's why I want it locked up now.

The rangers and pens don't even bother me to be honest. But I still want that series to go 7. Not having Andersen really bothers me. I'd almost bet on a sweep if we had him.

I trust Raanta, but I'm also just sitting here waiting to see the report that he's going in for X-rays.
