Hi,

just started skating and practicing my stick skills on my homemade skillpad. Since I am new at skating, falling is a part of the routine. I therefore want to invest in good elbow pads that I can start wearing under my clothing for the skating practice (so good padding for the elbow is needed, preferably not too bulky) and that I can use when I start playing hockey games later on (so good slash protection).
Was looking at the new Mako M5 Elbow pads, but since they are pretty new, it is hard to find reviews on them. So I was wondering if any of you guys had a look at these or had some experience with them?
I also have a question regarding the sizing. I am about 6'1'' and weigh around 140 pounds (so pretty skinny, I know ). I think going for a size Medium would be the way to go according to the different sizing charts on the online vendors websites. What do you think.
I would like nothing better than to go and try some pads in hockey stores, but we live in the middle of nowhere and it is virtually impossible for me to get to a store.

Thank you guys for the input.

You don't need a high end pad like that for what you are playing. Try looking at the ones at entry or one above entry level. The Vapor X 3.0/5.0, Easton EQ20/30, Reebok 5K etc. Check out Jarick's equipment write up up top (holy cow I feel like a broken record...)

The M5 just came out and many shops still don't have them, so wait for a while before credible reviews pop up.

Thanks for the reviews link. I know I don't necessarily need the higher end gear. But I am getting older and protecting my bones is my first priority. And I also like buying the more expensive stuff, even if I know I do not really need it. It's just a way of treating myself and stimulating the economy :)

Any other good similar priced alternatives that give me the best protection? And what about the sizing?

The best way to buy elbow pads (and most hockey gear) is to simply go to a good hockey shop, try on a bunch of pads, and buy whatever fits best. Most elbow pads are pretty protective now, the main difference is in the fit/comfort/mobility. Size wise try on both smalls and mediums. I'm 6', around 185 lbs, and generally fit best in medium elbows (depends on the brand/model though).
