Eastern Conference playoff picture: Leafs HOST Tampa Bay

Its the last game of the season, we win -> play Tampa, lose -> we play Carolina. Do you play for the win (put your best goalie in) or do you put in another goalie ?
 
Leafs have the talent to win a playoff round, no matter who we face. If Matthews and Marner go off, I don't care who we're up against, a 5th place team with two rampaging superstars is a wagon that cannot be beaten.

But if we're going to get into a measuring contest with the Cats or the Lightning, they get the edge. I'm not nearly as worried about our defense as many around Leafs nation seem to be, but our goaltending is a real concern. And of course, Marner's playoff performance is still a very big question mark. We're likely the underdogs this year. It's the playoffs and anything can happen, but this year is not a good opportunity, especially not when compared to last year.

Lose would be Carolina or Florida, depending on who has more points at the time. The masochist in me says let's face Andersen. I mean, can't complain you ran into a hot goalie when you faced him in practice everyday for five years.

The regular season and the playoffs can play out in vastly different ways. In my estimation, the Leafs have lost to a favourite (Boston x 2), an underdog (Montreal) and in a pick 'em (Columbus) with each series going the distance. Go for the win whenever possible and let the chips then fall where they may.

I despise the current playoff format. Sure, the first round is great but I want those in rounds 2 and 3.

I much prefer 1-8... but I would happily watch 1-16 and do away with the conferences come playoff time.

I would also like to see a 3-2-1 point scheme and have an extra play in round to appease said 'fake parity'.

But, like you said we're going to get 4 of the top teams in the league playing each other in round 1... brutal.

Everyone I have ever spoken to prefers 1-8. Who is actually for this crap.

is there a scenario where we DONT play Tampa? Can we purposely tank in order to avoid them? This is BS to play the defending triple Stanley Cup champions in the first round. Might as well just forfeit

We'd have to tank hard. or Boston surges.
Kallgren may force us to play Tampa.

I'm not sure if it matters. Tampa isnt much harder than any other team .... other than Vasi goalie-ing us.

Leafs match up OK against TB. Doesn't matter who the first round opponent is - they will all be tough. I want to go up against one of the Florida teams - we will be the clear underdog and that's what I want

I think the key is at the very last minute Keefe should put Woll in net and to protect the young goalie the team will play D.

Oh for christs sake… I can’t take this. I honestly can’t take it. Everyone is already getting their excuses in line to give our core/management “1 more year”. I genuinely believe I won’t be able to mentally handle the inevitable excuse. It will be the trigger that finally breaks me.

There'll always be the one more year crowd. Same as the fire Babcock, fire Briere, fire Haxtol, fire Malhotra, fire McFarland. Fire Dubas? No, no it's on the players.

That's what makes our fanbase the best though. Pretty much split 50/50. But all of us are happy to go through as much pain as it takes for us to win.

Yes, we do match up well. But, they have us in goaltending. Would rather someone else 1st round personally but what can you do.

yea 1-16 would be ideal.

for regular season just put an end to OT. standings go by wins.

I love being 4th in the East and our potential matchups are 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Moreover, we're 5th in the league and our 1st round matchup is 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the league

I am good with 1-16... I don't mind OT but I hate the shootout. The only ones I watch are involving the Leafs... if I am watching a random game (any teams) and it goes to a shootout, I 99.9% of the time switch to another game or start watching something else. I'd actually rather have 10 minutes 3-on-3 rather than have to watch the shootouts.

If they keep OT and/or SO, then they should move to the 3-2-1-0 point system... or kill the OT and SO and keep the 2-1-0 point system. Loser points are for losers, yea that's you Gary.
 
Way too early to tell...Florida loses a couple in a row, Leafs win a couple in a roll, and things change.
