who was that leaf who scored 3 or 4 goals in the last game of the season when we sucked and ruined our draft position? it must have been 10 years ago. something like that better not happen tonight. we need to lose and play boston (provided NY pulls through and beats TB)

I believe that was Boyd Devereaux.

But regardless, never play to lose, go in use it as a tune-up whatever happens happens.

i'd still rather play Tampa. I think Boston is better overall, but specifically much better defensively. Even if we unfortunately lose in 7, I'd rather it be a more wide open series so Matthews/Marner have an easier time producing and can start to shed their playoff underachiever reptuations to build on things for future postseasons. Bergeron might be the only centre on the planet who can match Matthews in controlling possession and scoring chances. I also just can't take losing to these guys again...

yep, that was him! edit: reading an old article about it, he took us out of contention for the 1st overall pick with that performance (it was in 2009 and we beat spezza and the sens 5-2).

I thought tonight was going to be a nothing but nope, important stuff going on tonight.

Be interesting to see how TB and BOS approach tonight's game. Are they trying hard to finish 3rd, or are they hoping for 4th? I guess we'll know when we see if their stars are playing tonight or not. I would think with our history, BOS wouldn't mind playing us whereas TB might just as soon play Carolina. Either way, gonna be an interesting evening but basically I'm hoping the Leafs lose, and NYI wins. Strange stuff. :)

Whatever happens - happens. But part of me would like to spank Boston tonight with a skeleton lineup when you know they will be tying to win to avoid Carolina (can't score against them). Of course a Tampa win tonight makes it all moot.

IMO, Leafs/Tampa/Boston will all approach tonight as a way to rest players and prep for the playoffs.
Outcome of all the games is secondary to them.

Even though I'm quite bored of the matchup, I'd probably prefer this series to be against Boston due to the goaltending factor, namely them not having (a) Vasilevskiy.

it all comes down to today it's Tampa or Boston
I think the Bruins have a free W. No Matthews/Marner/Soup. Can the Islanders come through and give Tampa an L ? I reallllllllly want Boston in the 1st round, it would be perfect. We get home ice this time and what better way to get out of the first round than going through the Bruins ? It would be one hell of a series.

I am of the thinking that you shouldn't stress over what you can't control; there is no "easier" path for us. I would just love for it to be Boston so we can clear the cloud hanging over our head from past defeats.

Rask was our kryptonite. Vasi is in playoff mode can win the series by himself. I would take chances against Bruins. If after all upgrades and maturing Leafs can’t beat them, then this team is worth, well, not much…and Holl is a new Gardiner of the series? Still unpleasant memories of him getting mauled.

I truly believe this team is capable of winning a series against either Tampa or Boston. So I don't care much who the Leafs end up playing in round 1. I don't think there's enough of a competitive difference to make one of them an "easier" opponent. So who really cares.

There is, however, a difference in how miserable some Bruins fans will try and make my life if Toronto loses to them again in round 1. (both on HF and IRL) So for that reason, I'd prefer Tampa just to avoid that possible outcome. And don't give me this "defeatist attitude" garbage. I'm not an athlete, and the team's attitude doesn't reflect mine. I can be as defeatist as I want, and it doesn't change a thing about the outcome. And I'm usually so positive it gives people headaches.

If we play the current Bruins team in a 7 game series and lose, I would expect nothing less than major changes both in management and the active roster.

I suspect we open against Tampa Monday.

I prefer the Bruins. I respect them and by no means do I think it would be a slam dunk given our history, but Tampa Bay is clearly the toughest hurdle in the division, and it would be even more gratifying to get over the playoff hump against our arch nemesis in the post season.

I would prefer to face Boston, so I'm rooting for a leafs loss tonight and a tampa loss. That would be ideal.
