TB would be the worst 1st round matchup out of all 30+ NHL teams.

Conversely, we might be the worst match up for them as well

I think Tampa's players could not only out-skill the Leafs, they'd also dominate them physically.

A healthy Panthers team is the worst matchup for Tampa

At this rate, the Tampa/Florida matchup could be Boston's problem. We might be headed towards a Wild Card matchup against Carolina.

Storyline would be something at least, considering how many people have posted that CAR is a lock to lose in the 1st round because of who their goalie is. But at this point, it seems like the outcome of the 1st round is easier to predict that who we will be playing. No worries, we will play a good game and beat a good opponent one of these days and as soon as we do, we can start planning the parade again. :)

The Leafiest scenario right now would be dropping into a wild card spot and facing Carolina and Andersen in the first round. So, I fully expect that to happen.
You forgot the best part... he plays stellar and the Canes win in a four game sweep... OR... we send it to a game 7 and Freddy steals it after getting outshot 47-22. #Leafsthings

It's good that Boston and Tampa will take one of the other out now. Spin these losses into something positive. "Moneypuck" our way to the cup finals with a hurricanes -> rangers -> panthers path. Hopefully they can lose properly and not end up in the Atlantic still.

May actually work out best for us TBH. The Metro path is probably easier for us, but we need Carolina to finish behind Florida/Tampa.

Still too early to call the matchups with only a few points separating teams, how with Leafs current goaltending they are more inclined to drop in the Div as opposed to rising. IMO

Watch out for the Boston Bruins who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and charging hard on our Leafs who are 5-3-2 and now only 2 points back of Toronto.

Boston's young 23 year old Goalie Jeremy Swayman is a difference maker, as in his last 10 games he has allowed just 10 goals against giving him a .955 sv% and 1.19 GAA. I thought he would be good but not this good this early.

In comparison our Leafs goalies over that time.

Jack Campbell .. Games : 7 Goals Against: 21 ... SV% : .885 & GAA: 3.68
Petr Mrazek .......Games : 9 Goals Against: 24 ... SV%: .872 & GAA: 3.79

With all teams having played 59 games its currently

1) Florida .... 86 points
2) Tampa ..... 82 points
3) Toronto .. 79 points
4) Boston .... 77 points

My preseason prediction for the Atlantic was

1) Tampa Bay
2) Boston
3) Florida / Toronto (battling for 3rd)
4) Toronto (a potential bubble/wild card team)

With Leafs current goaltending sitting 32nd in the NHL in sv% since Jan 1st of 2022 that wild card spot is looking more likely with each passing game.

As usual, the series will go 7. Hopefully game 7 goes in our favor for once.

neither the Leafs or Boston, or Tampa likely to finish first.

We are playing Tampa unless we fall to the wildcard.

2 choices:

Play Mrazek -> we play Carolina
Play anyone but Mrazek -> we play Tampa.

Did you ever have to finally decide ?

Out of all the possible teams, I think TB is the only realistic shot the leafs have to get through the first round. I don't see it against Florida or Carolina. Don't get me wrong. Tampa is awesome, but they may not be as hungry coming off back to back wins. Expectations will be rock bottom. Leafs will beat TB. Don't care what anyone says.

The probability difference between us and Boston seems extreme for a one point gap with a game in hand. Especially considering we still play them twice more. Our seed could very well be determined on the last day of the season, when we face the Bruins.
